Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

IT just processed the severance script this weekend

IT for workday processed scripts for layoffs this week. Everything for Q2 financials was processed and locked Saturday and right after the severance scripts ran. Expect Thursday to be triggered and for impacts to happen. VPs and Sr. Directors were informed who is on the list since Friday afternoon around 3pm est. Not sure when all other leaders below will be told, but Google AI seems to think sr. managers with minimal direct reports are in danger.

@bn some years ago I had a team of direct reports and I was responsible for the stack rank of my team and sent it up the chain. My title was Supervisor, my Director (Sr. Director now) was the one who made the calls. Obviously that could and probably has changed but take it for what its worth. I also no Sr. Managers (ADs now) made calls in previous layoffs as I have many friends with that title. After my experience being the decider of who stays and who goes I pursued an individual contributor role again bc I did not want to have to decide who lost their jobs or not. It is a truly awful experience and those who do it routinely are a special breed, IMO

The direct manager does not usually make the call. Sometimes yes but that’s not often the case especially when consulting companies are involved.

Last round was VP/AVP decision which is different from the norm. The direct manager usually makes the call on who survives. So this one was made above the VP level? If so, that makes two that were out of the hands of direct managers. Good luck this week.
