A lot of folks talk all the time about how they'd celebrate if they got cut, how they're not worried, and how they'd be relieved if it happened to them. But not one of them has actually handed in their notice since they started mentioning it. If leaving would be such a blessing, why are they still sitting at their desks every morning? If those who want out quit, the rest of us would have a better chance of keeping our jobs. It'd be a win, win, in my opinion.

If you quit you don't get severance. Why would somebody quit to keep you happy? I changed teams to be ina precarious position and got my wish a year ago. I landed in a decent company a competitor ;) , but it's not easy to get a job out there.

I left by myself for a better role and compensation. However, I'd still appreciate a golden parachute worth of my yearly salary and an accelerated RSU vesting.
That's what a lot of folks did when the voluntary layoffs started in '24, but our org was unfortunately excluded from that.

Saying "I'd be happy being laid off with a severance" is very different than "I'm proactively quitting today".
While I’m sure some people were just bluffing, a lot of us were actively looking for other jobs and interviewing elsewhere. The reality is that the job market is extremely competitive right now, and Intel has unfortunately become a bit of a black mark on a resume for some employers.
I was already interviewing when I got laid off. The position I was interviewing for at the time didn’t work out, but I ended up getting a call from another company I had interviewed with almost two months earlier. That’s another issue people don’t always consider. Hiring processes are taking much longer these days.
So no, a lot of people aren’t just going to walk away from a paycheck and benefits without having something else lined up. In my case, the layoff actually couldn’t have come at a better time. It came with a nice severance package since I had worked there for almost 10 years, and I only ended up collecting 5 weeks of unemployment before starting my new job.
They just don't want to break characters in workspace, it's a clown show afterall deal with bruh
They're probably intelligent enough to know that quitting without another job lined up is financial su----e in this economy. Many of them are likely actively applying to other jobs
