I try to teach the newbies the ropes, but they're on their phones or walking off mid-explanation. Maybe I'm just old-school, but I thought you were supposed to actually learn the job once you join a company. Isn't that the minimum requirement? What's their game plan here?

@OP Leave them. be. When it comes time to cut, it's an easy and guilt free decision.
@OP maybe time for you to retire, probably will soon have forced retirement. TBH doesn't sound you're very good at your job.

Also, they’ve probably figured out some shortcuts and workarounds that you wouldn’t care about or want to use. My experience with younger/new employees is that they’re adaptable, eager to learn, and lots of times have something to teach.
Maybe Exxon needs to do more to attract better talent.
And candy bars cost a nickel!
Perhaps they don't give a flying fu-k about lining the bloated pockets of senior "leadership".
@a2 More likely scenario is that OP is blamed for the failure and put in NSI.
Let them fall flat on their faces and learn the hard way. Hopefully they are in your ranking group and will fall victim to the ranking purge.
If they want your help they will ask.
