The staff has been cut too many times in the past 12 months and morale is severely lacking. We are always waiting to hear if we will get laid off next. If we only had a long-term plan that showed us the bank was committed to us, things would change. The mood would lift and we could start executing properly. I don't expect to see that happen, though.

phych?
Perhaps when you return from your 3 month Summer Hours Robin will have a treat for you?
The staff hasn’t been cut once in the past 12 months, not “Many times”.
You have an agenda and are making up layoffs. Name groups and people in all of these layoffs. You can’t and it didn’t happen.
@bjbq, I don't remember anything about breaks being taught other in phych.
Never taken a college level psych class?
@bcbu, you guys are just used to the days when no one quit under Uncle Todd! In fact, everyone started working longer hours for the same pay!
@bdi1,
Sarcasm: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
@bdi1 "I call B.S. we haven’t had any significant staff cuts this year..."
That's because there's been no need to institute staff cuts when enough staff is leaving by choice due to increased job responsibilities with little to no increase in salary. Who needs cuts when you can mistreat your staff enough to walk out the door on their own?
I don’t see the point of providing the current employee location stats…providing the yearly stats for the past 5 years would be more helpful. It would clearly show the trends of where roles are being moved from and to. I was let go because my role was moved and given to someone in india.
45% of total employees are based in the U.S..for now!
I call B.S. we haven’t had any significant staff cuts this year during Robin’s honeymoon at the Bank. Just imagine the whining when he actually starts. You all are going to lose it when he actually does start cutting.
Here’s a hint… he only wants to have you come to work again as you used to do.
Because only co-workers can do you harm?
Wow who knew that they worked here…
@9nis, despite your racist views on white men, you SHOULD be more scared of:
- John Muhammad shooting up the beltway
- Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev bo----g marathons.
- Omar Mateen shooting up a g-y night club
- Nidal Hasan shooting up fort hood
- Ivan A. Lopez-Lopez shooting up fort hood for a second time
- Aaron Alexis shooting up the Washington Navy Yard
- Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez shooting up a a U.S. Navy Reserve center.
- Sirhan Bishara Sirhan shooting up the kenedys.
etc
etc
We have just got to get rid of these racists somehow. They are poisoning our culture and pitting people against one another. The anti-India sentiment here is particularly disturbing.
@6nsc I'm not sure what a "slow motion psychological break" is but seems like a completely logical post.
I think that If you read the entire thread you’re likely to notice his psychological break from reality. On a board like this there is no way to get him to the help that he needs. Truly hope that someone intervenes before he harms himself or others.
Well, as it turns out, its statement is completely false ranting from a racist.
45% of total employees are based in the U.S. while only 30% of employees are in India.
US employee count: 24101 (45% of total employees)
India count: 16081 (30% of total)
UK count: 5583 (10.5% of total)
Poland count: 2465 (4.6% of total)
Rest of world: 4911 (9% of total)
Chennai” when 45% of total employees are based in the U.S. while only 30% of employees are in India?
US employee count: 24101 (45% of total employees)
India count: 16081 (30% of total)
UK count: 5583 (10.5% of total)
Poland count: 2465 (4.6% of total)
Rest of world: 4911 (9% of total)
It's not surprising how quickly the woke crowd throws around racism accusations with zero evidence. They could have just as easily called it the Bank of Pittsburgh because we've been downsizing in NY in favor of Pitts. There is nothing racist about pointing things out like that. Nothing.
Fascinating to watch this slow motion psychological break.
It’s not all just in your head. Walk carefully and remain alert. H-1B workers are behind every tree and under every stone. All of them are trying to take your job.
Have there been any reports of White on Indian or Asian attacks on the subway tonight? Please, if If you see something say something.
I’m so confused. How can it “be a FACT that most of our employees are in Chennai” when 45% of total employees are based in the U.S. while only 30% of employees are in India?
US employee count: 24101 (45% of total employees)
India count: 16081 (30% of total)
UK count: 5583 (10.5% of total)
Poland count: 2465 (4.6% of total)
Rest of world: 4911 (9% of total)
@7pxp, that's STILL not racism. But you calling me a racist is. Are you truly that stoopid?
And you're leaving out "contractors" and H1Bs. And for some areas, such as IT, it's probably closer to 90% Chennai.
No, you’re calling yourself out as a racist. Compare your paranoid rants with the actual facts in @6kig
Some exact numbers as of 5/29 to keep people in check:
US employee count: 24101 (45% of total employees)
India count: 16081 (30% of total)
UK count: 5583 (10.5% of total)
Poland count: 2465 (4.6% of total)
Rest of world: 4911 (9% of total)
Now that you’ve seen stats please treat people as people and stop race baiting.
Interesting data, but bad for the theories of the racists here. Apparently the Bank is spreading out the work throughout the world with dominant 45% of the workers in the good old USA. The “Banks of Chennai” must refer to to the bank of a river that runs through there.
It’s almost as if the bank is a world wide Bank, headquartered in New York and hiring staff to follow the sun to serve customers and hire workers in their locale.
I’d say that it’s a bad day for racists.
US employee count: 24101 (45% of total employees)
India count: 16081 (30% of total)
UK count: 5583 (10.5% of total)
Poland count: 2465 (4.6% of total)

@6afz, because you watch fake news, boomer.
Lots of misinformation about the proportions of employees in various countries. Some exact numbers as of 5/29 to keep people in check:
US employee count: 24101 (45% of total employees)
India count: 16081 (30% of total)
UK count: 5583 (10.5% of total)

Why do I have the feeling that we’ll be seeing this coworker on the evening news?
Is Chennai a race and is using it in a company name racist? If so, New York must be too so our ACTUAL company name is racist.
@6aeg, how is that racist? It's a FACT that most of our employees are in Chennai.
They don't need to displace workers when enough are leaving on their own due to dissatisfaction or unfair treatment. Serves the same purpose because then they just don't refill the positions.
Hope that you can self assess and course correct. It’s been pretty difficult to get displaced here for the last three years..
@ 4lzh / 4ssy
Wow, nice response that splits hairs over inconsequential matters like just what the precise name of our company is (as though anybody except those with enough zeros in their salaries even care about that). And then you feel the need to lecture about whether to define where I worked as a "branch" or an "operation." Again, who really gives an F?
But what's really galling is that you accuse me of racism just because I mentioned the location was India where a portion of our tasks where sent. Excuse me if I need to "plebian-explain" to you this has nothing to do with race--it's all about penny-pinching. This wasn't done to "Follow The Sun" (what focus group were you in that came up with that wonky corporate feel-good BS slogan?). None of the accounts that we transferred to India were for Indian companies, they were predominantly US entities. So please do explain how supporting "our clients clients in their time zones, their culture and their languages" benefits Americans losing their jobs (your word was "displaced"...nice--helps you sleep at night to use that word, doesn't it?). There is no justification you can provide that removes the fact that it is cost-efficient--and that is all--to hire workers in countries where tasks can be done for only a 20% of salaries previously paid to first world workers. Skin color is not the factor here, it's cheap labor.
The only thing you DID get right was that, yes, I do emphatically NOT work here at Boney Mellon anymore (I only call it that out of disrespect)--but not because I was let go. I survived the latest "displacement" of my team from 10 to 6 in the Pgh office, but what galled me enough to say Hasta La Visto to Mellon (I still call it that because it rankles people like you) was that as one of the remaining team members I was now expected to take up the slack and assume responbilities for MORE work than I'd had before we were downsized. This placed more responsiblity on me for intricate and time-consuming procedures that had not been previously part of my job description. I WAS able to handle the increased expectations (I never received a BE during my whole Mellon experience), but when I brought up with my super and their super in a meeting that I felt I deserved an increase in my annual salary from the usual insult of less than 2% to at least 10%, the answer was no and explanation was "it's just how your job is now." I quit six months later.
So really the only thing you were correct about in your reply is that, yes, I do not work here now. But don't worry--I'm sure the efficiency and skill-set I acquired over thirteen years will be instantly picked-up by to whomever they out-source my job to. Just follow the sun...
While BNY swapped our traditional retail branches for JPM's corporate trust business in 2006, we still have plenty of branches as detailed on our website.
Such as https://www.bnymellon.com/apac/en/about-us/locations/asia-pacific/hong-kong.html
@4ssy, you can keep calling me a racist but that doesn't make it true. In fact, YOU are being racist by assuming I'm racist with no evidence whatsoever.
90% of our business is based in the US and only 15% of our employees are. So your "custodian of the world" cr-p doesn't hold water.
The fact is, we're replacing experienced US workers with green offshore employees because id--tic management thinks bodies are fungible. Calling BK out for that is NOT racist.
I doubt that you work here now or you would know that:
- Our name is “The Bank of New York Mellon”, although it does feel like BNY (Mellon).
- we have no branches. Mellon sold their branches and retail banking to Newton in 2002 and Newton folded them into their Citizens brand . In turn, Mellon bought a book of business of Asset Management from Newton. New York had closed their branches before the merger as well. Wherever you’re doing your branch banking it isn’t here.
- Perhaps you’re confusing our Operations processing sites with branches?
We do have Operations areas all throughout the world and we have a “Follow the Sun” model of support for Operations and Technology. We do support our clients in their time zones, their culture and their languages. It’s the polar opposite of your racism. Or were you hired because you’re actually fluent in six or seven languages?
Understood that you were displaced a few times and your functions moved to Pune. I’ve been there too. But this is the way the world works and if you can’t get past it you should get some counseling. But because your functions have moved it’s no reason to hate an entire race. People everywhere are doing their best to eke out a living. Treat people with respect and get to know them.
If I may jump into this discussion...
Here's a FACT for ya, 4ssy--last time I checked, the name of this company was Bank of NEW YORK MELLON (PITTSBURGH). Yes, it is now a global company, and it's to be expected there will other branches both in the US and internationally that will assist us for those regions.
But don't give me the "we support and service them in their locales, in their time zones and in their cultures" BS because we aren't supporting them so much as they are supporting us. And that support involves paying staff lower wages for tasks that previously were done in Pgh and NY. That IS a fact I know from personal experience because in the 13 years I worked at BNYM, I was a member of three teams (once as a contractor, the other two as a full BNYM employee) and ALL of those teams were downsized because much of our duties were transferred to units in Pune India. This wasn't done out of any attempt to become the "Custodian of the World," it was done to increase bottom line profits and save money. Don't p*ss on my head and tell me it's raining.
