Coping Skills in Toxic Company

Here are some of the survival tips I've learned at Honeywell so far:

  1. When the manager starts yelling/blaming, find an object nearby to focus on. Take three deep breath and start dissociating. Occasionally mutter an "mhm" and end the conversation with "got it, thank you" so you can act like a fake yes-man.
  1. Take every single leave you can. Management might guilt trip you and your team is probably severely understaffed, but take vacation/sick days anyway. Manager might indirectly pressure you to work on your time away. Try not to give in. Put yourself first. If you really have to respond to emails while away, do the bare minimum.
  1. Stressed at the office? Sit on the toilet and take a massive p-o. Challenge yourself to see how many poos you can take before the toilet is clogged. Use up the toilet paper before you have to expense those. Eat all the office snacks. Get all the free food.
  1. Make an exit plan and visualize it/keep it nearby on hard days. If job applications haven't gone well, see if you can enroll in an online degree program to learn new skill and move away from this toxic job. If you have a second/side job, get good at that side job.
  1. Take advantage of all the benefits you can, especially the EAP so you can get free therapy to cope with the abusive environment.

Other tips: A lot of people in HR are id--ts that act like androids. Be prepared to be gaslight if you report anything. Don't trust them. CYA in every occasion. Document all the work you do so no one can tell you you're not working. Alway act very busy so you don't get more work. Don't let this place take away your self worth. They will try.

Someone has instigated a flood of blatantly fake, obviously scripted glowing reviews of the company on various Job Boards.

I was told outright that VOE is for optics only. To appease a corporate tick list of expectations from stock buyers, it also provides internal intel that is not for your benefit.

HR is in failure mode. They just want to secure their next promotion and join in with the bullies. The ship is sinking and HR is enabling the toxic leaders instead of holding them accountable. They patronize the employees with a VOE that clearly doesn’t matter.
