Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Change my mind

If you are not a LL at this company you only exist to justify the LL existing. Change my mind.

My grandfather once told me that there were two kinds of people: those who do the work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was much less competition. - Indira Gandhi

100%. Remember it’s not just diversity. I had people in my department who knew manager was leaving to another area, then the two ll6 try to lobby eveyone why they were the best pick. I think they interviewed for the position as well. Everything was so hush hush. These ll6 were competent and had experience (not brain surgery)…then they announce the new manger…and wouldn’t you know…someone from outside our area and with zero experience got the job and we all had to support the ll5 getting up to speed…I felt bad for my colleagues because they thought they had a chance…they were better off to apply to positions in different areas of the company as well

@OP. I am going to further extend your proposition ... even if you are no longer here in this company, you still justify the LL existing.

I lost count of how many delays and issues were blamed on the laid off employees last year. The problem never is the lack of leadership, but some GSR, or ex-GSR that is not present to defend him/herself. So now the LLs have to hire even more people to fix the "mistakes" the departed GSR "caused". Just sad.

You are correct every promotion is followed by empire building (staffing up).
One of the more laughable promotions this year they actually held interviews for. Two of the people who applied were actually qualified, could actually step in and make an immediate impact. Instead they promoted an unqualified 35 yr old diversity candidate. Shortly after he was promoted he posted two GSR positions under him with the exact same job responsibilities the LL6 posting had (except a GSR). Funny thing no one applied for the two positions. The newly minted LL6 convinced the LL5 to force transfer the two qualified GSRs under him. One promptly retired. The other is twiddling his thumbs until he retires in 2024.

It’s all a house of cards where the leadership team is focused on building empires.

You are correct. I have had several LLs come through my department only to be promoted to the next level while I've had to re-train the next LL. I've convinced myself that I only have a few more years before I retire.
