Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

This is my second time feeling anxious

About layoffs. I came from another large corporation, and they dragged this on for months and months with useless town hall meetings, and threatening emails. Round after round. Then it would stop. Then another big one. Sometimes you had forgotten all about it because it would get quiet. Then you start noticing meetings being canceled. Then your boss wants to meet "briefly ".
I am so sick of it. You're not free from this unless you start your own business or retire.

@OP+1p0mbaZu I know exactly how you feel OP. Yeah. The canceling of multiple meetings (some even last minute) and boss (sometimes their boss too) wanting to meet briefly can totally up one's anxiety. Like I don't know if I should be looking for work in another industry, try to move to a different team, etc.

@xhy
Since you have been through it twice, what would you recommend to others? Should people start looking elsewhere? And what you didn't do then that you think you would do now?

and Yes I agree their doing this because they want a lot of people to leave. And the fact is it will be a big one because the bank isn't doing well at all.

@kby, I was laid off twice, already. The first time, it was a small regional bank. The second time, it was at a large bank similar to this. They did everything the same way Citi is doing it. It was awful. We listened to town hall meetings, questions were always asked about it, and you received the same vague responses.
I do think that they want a lot of people to leave.
When they first announced the layoffs at the other large bank, I survived rounds of it. Then it got quiet, and we all were asking/ wondering if they were done. Next year starts, and they're at it again, and it was big. So just like I said, you can try to run, but you can't always hide. No guarantees that you leave here, that it won't happen somewhere else.

yea it's best to start your own business. That also has it's challenges but it's better to have your own because you don't deal with the corporate nonsense. I will not be attending another town - hall it's a waste of time. This will be my first time dealing with this as other companies I worked for just did layoffs unexpectedly. My role wasn't impacted but no one saw it coming. After they did the layoffs, they had a firm meeting and then mentioned it. It was about 80 - 100 people laid off.

But since Citi is making these announcements and doing these repetitive townhalls , it will probably be lots of layoffs all across the entire bank.

Wow so we're you laid off previously?

I understand how you feel, at this point i'm a bit frustrated because their doing this on purpose because people will start leaving. I just think it would su-k if a person leaves and their role wasnt impacted. I'm thinking their going to do a lot of layoffs and that is why we are experiencing this.
It su-ks working for employers but it seems like this is common.
