No one should tell your manager about your health condition ahead.

Instead, you should file ADA or FMLA, and get the days off, then tell your manager.

If you are canned, file a lawsuit.

In May, I told my management that I had a heart problem and needed an operation/procedure to hopefully fix it. I June, I got canned.

Nice folks. Really concerned for their employees.

@2vkv+1pLJfQjS the ford desk jobs do pound you down, health wise. stress, immobility, long commutes, early meetings, late meetings, endless circus deadlines, no support, do more with less... all the while thinking you are piling up all this cash for a long happy retirement. saddest thing in michigan when these guys retire then get taken out by ill health.

Oddly @ Thanksgiving gathering we were chatting about the old 11-2 Euchre and drinks Club and what happened to them.

  • Retired and/or Deceased @ 59 (2), 60, 62, 65, 69, 71(2).
  • Retired and quite ill 58,62,66,67.
  • Retired looking pretty haggard (really packed on the pounds) 59, 66.
  • Still “retired” on the job 64 (2) one has cancer.

So maybe Ford recesses aren’t conducive to a healthy retirement? The majority had only a year or two of retirement before major illness set in / retired due to medical issues.

WFH cut down on the recesses. Less peer pressure to conform.

At Ford the recess is the local bar. It is from 11-2 daily. Bring a deck of cards for euchre
Nap time is 2-3, then its quitting time

@OP. My guess is you are asking when the next recession will hit. Well, TBH, that's the 50 billion dollars question nobody has been able to answer yet. It is highly possible that it could be in 2024. Many economists are saying that, but when exactly, as well how long and deep the recession will be, we don't know yet.

If you wonder about the 50 billion dollars, that's the amount of money made by those that short selled the market in the last real recession (I don't include the one in 2020, since it was caused by our own government). So believe me that a lot of people want to know when the next recession is coming.

Now, this might not be completely related, but if you ask me, I'd say a recession is nearby, since just last month the SEC announced new rules for shortselling (very convenient, right?) and there are currently $927 billion (with a b) in short interest (the number of shares shorted, but not yet covered).

At the same time, Canada is flirting with a recession (0% growth on GDP), Europe is in a shallow recession, China is in the middle of a slowdown (maybe a recession as well, but since CPP don't allow details, we don't know for sure), while our dear government keeps making changes into the CPI calculation to "remove biases that caused the CPI to overstate the inflation rate", A.K.A, disregarding reality and tweaking the numbers to appease the political party in power and trick the markets.

To top it up, the credit card debt ballooned to over a trillion dollars, our local, state and federal government are sunk in debt until their eyeballs, Covid-19 measures destroyed the small businesses (the ones supporting 50% of the GDP and employment), consumer spending, that was the real growth of GDP in the third quarter of 2023, is coming down. 92% of Americans are cutting back, including the upper middle class, in the middle of the holiday season.

IDK, we should be in a recession already, and sometimes I wonder if our government is also cooking the GDP books, the way the cooked the CPI to show a "tame" inflation. The problem with "cooking", is that sooner or later, the whole me-h lab (corporate or federal) blows up. Since we are dealing with both (Ford's and Biden's), I don't think I'll have a job at FMC this time next year.
