Just an outaider perspective. How can a ‘technology’ driven company be so backwards in thinking?
Why is it considered normal to talk about religion, have fellowships based on religious beliefs and potential groupings based on what one believes in or which church one goes to?
Why is nepotism considered normal? Don’t these nepo kids or their parents feel shame?
In America there is a concept of freedom of religion and it's not limited to the workplace. There are many activities groups for like minded people. Start one if you want

People seek commonalities to connect. Your list is incomplete - people who went to the same university, people who have kids the same age, people who have dogs, people who ride motorcycles, people who ride bicycles, people who exercise, people who like wine, people who like sports, people who like…. There are a million things.
Don’t you have anyone at work that you have things in common with?

It’s the same on refinery sites. Exxon doesn’t have a culture because of these reasons…
I have never seen religion play a role at work outside of interpersonal relationships. I don’t see an issue with people wanting to build friendships with others who share similar faith/belief systems.
This is coming from an atheist, but I find my coworkers to be tactful with their expressions of religion. Nothing like my neighbors and other peers outside of work who can be a lot more pushy.
Yeah I saw some christen prayer groups at EMHC. employees on the clock praying together and discussing Christianity. Years ago the was a Mormon who constantly talked about how his religion was the best and why everyone else was going to he-l. The nepo and favoritism is rampant at several sites in the south. How do you survive when everyone else in your group is related or knows the supervisors on a personal level. I was in on a ranking session and the related supervisors protected their family members from low ranking and piping. If a supervisor liked an employee the other supervisors would not dare challenge the rating. Pay attention to the last names of the persons you work around. It is no coincidence they have the same last name.
