Overall, Cisco in my opinion above average place to work if you just keep your head down and do well at what you do.

If you get a good position in hardware doing world class chip or board work Cisco can be a great place to work. As a "software company" which spent the vast majority of its development budget on bug fixing with the little remaining development dollars producing even more bugs its career death for anyone with actual software skills.

This is very subjective topic. Overall, Cisco in my opinion above average place to work if you just keep your head down and do well at what you do. However, like any large companies, there are those that do not pull their weight but put on a show for their importance. This is across the board. Then there's the silos which is natural part of corporate version of protectionism for many reasons. This is hurting the company. Too much use of off shore labor has it's pros and cons. Company's balance sheet may look good but overall, long term reputation is damaged permanently.

...no other company can even come close to this.

"Neutron" Jack Welch started the tradition of layoffs in the early 1980s by laying off 100,000 people from GE so stealthily it never became a major news story. Despite bringing layoffs and rank-and-yank to Cisco Chambers as a worshiper of Welch never approached the master.

@1utm+1uvb5YxE " I managed to get out of all three (including CISCO) within 2 years of each"
Sure you weren't fired for your English skills?

Should be "Cisco is the worst place to work" - YOU HAD EXPERIENCED OR IN YOUR VIEW. CISCO certainly not the best place(s) to work that I have experienced; however, I had two other places in my career so far that were worst than CISCO. I managed to get out of all three (including CISCO) within 2 years of each. Keep your head up and control your destine.

A T & T is likely ahead of Cisco. They have been doing it since 1985 so they are very good at it.

I know others who came back because they did find places that were worse. For me it was the worst company I had ever worked for so I left, and I saw enough that it would be an act of G-d for me to consider a Cisco resume.

Cisco is still a good place to work. I was there a long time and I was laid off. It wasn't performance based. The reality is the entire tech sector over hired post pandemic and they are no drunk on the cost savings that come with laying off the more expensive people and replacing them with less expensive ones. Is this a solid long term strategy? I don't think so. Each and every company has their issues. My suggestion would be that if you are that unhappy the odds are that they aren't thrilled with you either. Start looking now. Always have your plan B ready. If you work in tech long enough a layoff will impact you.

@ril+1uvb5YxE, probably a lot of folks here have a family to feed and mortgage you id-ot. The job market is terrible outside. No wonder folks are complaining about weak leadership what directly leads to layoffs.

You can say whatever about Cisco but you cannot deny the fact that its the #1 layoff company in the world , no other company can even come close to this. I am baffled beyond words who ranked this company for #1 place to work i think corruption and politics to the max if you have money and power you can buy anything in this world.

If nobody had ever complained or spoke the truth, then all the changes or revolutions that took place for thousands of years would not have happened.

HR does not investigate or the VP does not care about the bad review process. It should be based on facts and room for improvement. Cisco is under constant pressure to layoff for cooking the books or paying dividends to stock holders.

Greed is everywhere and C E O is the most greediest. It’s like a dog eat dog world in the tech companies in the Bay Area.

Has anyone actually received a survey for this “best place to work” award? I haven’t. I’m starting to wonder if Cisco supplies the names of HR employees to pad the numbers.

You can't speak for me, so I think what you mean is that you had the worst work experience at Cisco. Having terrible working experiences at great companies is unfortunately very common. Your manager and colleagues accounts for most of your experience. So maybe say, my manager and colleagues are the worst.

Well, HR is definitely not happy for this post, they are just working hard to have someone rank Cisco as the best one company, and HR is very busy, next round will most likely start from Thanksgiving, Cisco is definitely Labelled itself #1 frequently layoff company, no other company can compete with Cisco.

It’s a tough time, definitely. But certainly not the worst company. No matter what happens I’m still grateful for what Cisco has provided me ( new skills, confidence, travel, friendships, etc)

It’s hard to not associate a job loss to your value/worth to the team but your world makes up of far more than Cisco. All you can do now is control how you handle the situation- whether you stay or leave.

Really wishing you all the best - you’ve got this!

For the last 2 years, lots of companies doing cuts in tech, so Cisco isn't only one. But problem with Cisco is they do as often as their shutdowns...every 6 months. Other problem is they have bloated management layers..Mgr to Sr. Mgr to Dir to Dir to Sr. Dir. And all these people got promotions, are doing exactly the same role and responsibility as earlier. Portfolio a mgr used to manage now is done by Sr. Dir.
They can easily cut 30% of management no problem, but they keep cutting ICs. That is big difference with other companies. Others cut the right layers.
Other problem is total lack of GTC vision, customer focus, innovation. Again because same SLT been there for 20 years.
