Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Applied to over 200 jobs, got three calls in total

To say I feel demoralized would be an understatement.

It’s unconscionable that citizens of the US are spending months seeking while companies can hire H1Bs. The feds need need to lower the caps until US workers are employed… a little re-tuning is in order. Offshoring be dammed as well.

@roe+1vBhQypl This is the way. Vary your skill set so that you can fill a variety of rolls and you shouldn’t have issues finding contract work for 6-12 month gigs

Took me 180 applications over 2 years. Finally landed in a job. Got lowballed on offer countered with the range I'd given at the initial screening and got my minimum threshold. It's tough out there, be patient.

@ngr+1vBhQypl, are you really that obtuse? On average, any given job in 2024 has ~250 applicants. On average, any given applicant in 2024 has applied for ~300 jobs before landing one. By applying to so many jobs, OP may be part of the problem, but his/her applying to fewer roles is unfortunately a losing strategy in this market. Even if OP had applied to just 50 jobs, he/she would have still been just one of ~250 applicants.

Technology and AI has allowed applicants to apply to more and more jobs, and AI and application tracking systems (ATSs) have increasingly allowed recruiters to automate the rejection of candidates.

"Applied to over 200 jobs", even with the caveat of being over the course of 3 months that is just over 2 applications every single day. You are literally part of the problem. And you are either blindly just blasting an application as quickly as possible or wasting a ton of your time in the application process.

That is not me attempting to chastise you, it's simply a fact. Potential Employees are flooding openings making it a complete gamble for an applicant to even be reviewed much less enter the screening process.

@OP, just sit back and cherry pick. I don't believe that you applied for 200 prime positions that you really wanted and suspect most of those were ones that would be "good enough and I'll leave later for better" or something along those lines. Refine your searches and alerts, cherry picking and relax. You'll have a better experience and might even find something you actually fit better in.

Who's that, the employees that have already been downsized and lied to about it, or the ones that will be in the future?

It’s unfortunately a numbers game. I’m in the same boat. When recruiters have 100 applicants, they certainly dont read all resumes. The first 10 or so (or however many they need to screen) that meet the criteria get a call. It’s likely your resume wasn’t even looked at which is a shame but nothing to do with your qualifications. It’s exhausting but try to keep your head up!

Are you applying to contract work? If you are on notice, take contract gigs. They pay 60/hr and last at least six months.
