Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Can you get rehired if you get laid off?

Like at any point even 10 years down the road?

"But, you sign it, you can’t say or post anything negative about the company."

It even says you can't like/up vote posts that are critical of the company.

Here's the thing, those clauses have already been struck down in court in other cases. So Ford had no legal standing to enforce that.

The “separation” notification said that you can’t be rehired whether or not you take their money.

”To make me sign something that says I'll never be hired again felt like a kick in the pants.”

I know this is mean, but I find myself hoping none of these LLXs got an exemption for the COVID vaccine.

The do not rehire subsection was the most offensive part of the entire process for me.

I get it, I was the right age and well paid. It made sense for them to can me to balance out all the pensioners. But I had great reviews the entire time I was there. To make me sign something that says I'll never be hired again felt like a kick in the pants.

I'm sure there was some legal benefit for the company for them to include it. Or if I had been a terrible employee or did something to justify getting let go. Without thise things, it felt spiteful and mean.

Most of the exit packages include a do not rehire statement. So no, not likely. Unless the regime changes and they decide they really want you. The rules are only for us. Not for them.

@OP+1vOVRMQn “Laid off” implies it is temporary; what actually happens is that you are released (ie involuntarily separated/fired). Assuming you are a Ford employee, the answer is no, you can never come back as a Ford person nor a contractor. If you take a VOLUNTARY package (Ford hasn’t offered those since 2018), then coming back is dependent upon a variety of factors and each is reviewed individually. Your separation paperwork has clear language that you cannot come back, even as a contractor.

If there are Ford people who were separated from the company and are now back as contractors, their manager did not follow the required process to get approval to bring them back (because they wouldn’t be back if they had) and they should be reported to the speak up forum for investigation. Life@Ford has the policy under Reemployment process.

If you are a contractor and are let go, typically, you can come back.

So let me get this straight...you were let go because your work was unsatisfactory or no longer needed. Now, you want to go back to that same company that still holds that mindset? Have some self respect and work somewhere where they appreciate you.

What if your prior People Leader was also SIRP'd?

Depends on your exit package. SIRP and the mess that was ‘smart redesign’ had language in there about not being eligible for rehire. If you were packaged out under the current CTP, I think it’s 3 months to come back as agency or 6 months as a direct hire. With that said, he hiring manager still has to put in a rehire request, and your prior people leader gets consulted.

Laid off in August. 2022. The agreement I signed said that you can never work for Ford again. However, I was told that if a VP or higher signs off then you can.

When I was SIRP'd there was specific language in the severance package that stated very specifically that I could never work for Ford again in any capacity. It may have even had language about managing Ford projects or accounts through another employer.

But I saw at least two employees get let go in the SRD get brought back as contract workers.

They do whatever they want...

Ford management does whatever they want. HR just follows along. Just don't rely on anything HR says. They are useless...

Why would you want to????

There was a clause in the layoff stuff they gave you that you can't work for ford anymore.

But like all things in life.
If you got connections you can get exceptions

Yes, you can get rehired if you are laid off. You can also get rehired if you voluntarily quit.

Call Ford HR and ask them to check your rehire status (once you have been separated from Ford). It's a field in their system.

No. People who got laid off were laid off for a reason, low performance, made upper level management mad, etc. Even if you leave Ford voluntarily, your manager fills out paperwork and has to check a box saying whether or not they would be a rehire. Usually, management says, “No” because if Ford was such a great fit, you wouldn’t be leaving in the first place.

Involuntary? Usually no. HR has a bug up their b-m about this.
