Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO Drop In Seating Turf Wars

We need assigned seats. This is boiling to a head. Utterly ridiculous that the requirement is 5 days but there are no assigned seats.

I just want to go to work, do my job, have a consistent place to sit and work while I do my job, and then go home.

I don't want to battle it out with ridiculous childish people playing games to hold desks everyday and cheat the system.

We need AT&T to do its part and stop this nonsense so I can focus on my job and I know everyone else feels the same if you hate RTO or not. We are tired of it being a war zone every morning over a f'ing desks.

If everyone would find a seat and claim it we would not have an issue. This does not have to be so hard. Respect a persons belongings if there and select another seat and go there daily and you may find others will respect yours. I have seen so many harsh words and bickering of employees this week over seating and it does not have to be this way as there was open seating right down the hall. It appears some employees are just spiteful or unhappy individuals and want to go along with this manufactured chaos when it does not have to be this way. Just respect one another as we are colleagues, friends and all dealing with this same BS. Everyone should claim a seat and go there daily.

Wait, wait, wait. All we heard was that WFH enabled people to run errands, take naps, watch TV, etc. Lots of sparky and sh-t-filled comments to that effect.

RTO was to transform us all into little work drones who ground out 8 straight hours of work every day. No distractions, no personal time. A veritable utopia, if you were a di-khead capitalist.

But now you've gotten your way and, alas, whining about non-productivity in the office! WTF is going to make some of you happy?

I humbly suggest that you focus your thoughts and actions on YOU. There's enough work there to keep you busy for years on end.

I do this constantly. I consider it as my part in culling the weak.

This practice was never an issue at home, though. I wonder if those big brains at the top can pick up on the causation and enact a more suitable alternative.

Or if not, I'm happy to keep on truckin'. Good luck out there!

“ you two should meet outside in the parking lot at lunch.”

That’s the way men used to handle things…Mano y Mano (whether fists, sw0rds or p1stolas).

Supposedly our group has an area 'designated' by the on-high. Something like 3 dozens seats or something. Unfortunately, in addition to the people who are already there, an additional 2 dozen are being added. No seats added, though.

Look, no one in his right mind thinks RTO makes sense. Personally, haventl't had to report to a fu---n office 5 days a week since 2002.

If everyone played by the rules and didn't leave things to hold drop in spaces, there would be enough space FOR NOW since so many people aren't comming in right now somehow. But because people leave cr-p on a desk to hold it overnight and play games it is coming to a head with arguments and fights.

No matter what it still would be a problem long term if they enforce attendance. Look at the sharepoint and count the number of seats assigned to your org that work out of your office/floor and the number of people in your org and you will see why if everyone comes in. But they will probably just lay off the difference!

"Just get to work REAL early and you can get what you want. If you are a slacker and get in after 8:00 deal with it."

Doesn't matter in Dallas when you get there and everyone has all their personal sh*t spread out on their desks that they leave personally. You either have ti throw it on the floor/trash and have confrontation or sit in non-eh&s approved non-ergonomic couches all day and get a neck sprain and carpel tunnel

They go p-o, don’t wash their hands and come back and contaminate the company owned keyboards. It is a health issue!

I understand what you are saying, and I agree.

But by just venting here, you are not accomplishing anything at all.

Make GRE enforce their policy, at a minimum. Report the issues with personal items being left on desks. Every day if necessary.

Get in early and sit at those desks. I get that you don't want confrontation, but there really shouldn't be any. If someone complains you just calmly state that you are following the policy. If for some reason things were to get heated, CALL THE POLICE and state that you felt unsafe.

Can you imagine if multiple people started doing this regularly? GREAT PRESS. You need to beat them at their own game.

If everyone simply does nothing, nothing will be addressed.

Stop with the childish approach to the issue. It’s simple:
Get in your car and drive to work in a relaxed state of mind.
Badge in and look for a suitable, ergonomically correct drop-in office space.
If there is none available, calmly take your phone out and begin recording your short walk to a non-ergonomically correct chair, sofa bench, or other Starbucks-like casual seat is not suitable for an 8 hour work day.
Calmly stop recording and place your phone away.
Sit there and do your job as long as you can until your back, neck or shoulders begin to feel strained.
Calmly take your phone out one last time and record yourself packing up and leaving.

YOU HAVE JUST SUCCESSFULLY DOCUMENTED YOUR CASE FOR A LAWSUIT AND AT MINIMUM, SHORT-TERM DISABILITY. I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT THIS EVIDENCE IS IRREFUTABLE AND FULLY SUPPORTIVE OF ANY CLAIM.

You are missing the point of collaboration. These are local coworkers you are expected to be engaging with. Part of being a manager is learning to solve problems.

OP - I agree and it’s not asking to much.

“Oh look someone who cares now because it affects them. Where were you 1/6?”

You really are an a$$ and I’m sure not at all fun to work with. Some self reflection please.

Oh look someone who cares now because it affects them. Where were you 1/6?

You didn’t care because it didn’t affect you.

Well look where you are now.

Our only chance was to push back collectively but they were smart, they did it bit by bit and only those affected cared.

Too late, enjoy your 5 days back and no where to sit and do your work.

True. Don’t forget about the people booking focus rooms all day everyday. We need those for private and important meetings, not so someone can hide and watch Netflix all day.
