Been hearing that they're watching in-office attendance more closely. So all you coffee badging people are messing it up for everybody else.

@105 not sure what your numbers mean so i'm using the actual ratings words.

yes, you can be bumped down to inconsistently meets solely based on lack of adherence to in-office requirements - regardless of whether the person would have been meets, exceeds or consistently exceeds (I.e. not just dropped one level). Saw it in calibration discussions for MY.

It's acting like the risk indicator. adherence doesn't elevate you but non-compliance definitely dings you significantly

Most of these examples are only possible if an employee is in the same office as their manager, or any other stakeholders. For many of us, nobody we work with day-to-day is even in the same city. Even if we’re in a “hub”, this is common.

As a manger I love it when people on my team only come in part of the day or on “Saturday “. Makes giving them an inconsistently meets so easy. You need to spend more time collaborating with your peers and business partners. Here are two examples… we had a meeting with X and you were the only one on the call not in an office. You lost connection several times and never followed up for more detail on what was said or if there were action items you could help with.

Second the strategic meeting you had with Y was very ineffective. These things are better in person.

Oh you can’t find a seat? I’ll have John hold a seat for you, he is in everyday.

I need to know where you are sitting each day so I can connect with you quickly. You seem to never be there when I stop by.

So easy, keep doing it!

@kg They can potentially have it impact your performance review without warning you first though. Can they give you a 1 or a 2 just for that, without any pre-warning? Maybe not, but they could definitely ding people down from a 4 or 5 to a 3 for that. I know for a fact that they knocked people recommended for 4-5 down to 3 in my LOB because they were getting more than half their badge swipes at a location they weren’t assigned to, despite neither they nor their managers being warned in advance this could happen. And on many teams, that means less bonus money, less merit raise.

@a1 no one actually wants it to be a written policy. We’re simply tired of the empty threats lies and intentionally deceiving information we’ve received surrounding this matter. Until there is a policy, expect people to continue to coffee badge!

Monitoring is getting tighter, but not for hours in office… reports run every month at OC+1 and OC+2 level and managers are required to take action on people <3 days.wk. Reports don’t have hours in office - can’t do that broadly for a number of reasons. That said if.a manager has reason to suspect this they can do a pull of an individual’s behavior.

@az I was told I work 4 hrs a day because I do not use MS products enough. Seriously, that’s how they track hybrid workers when at home. But hey I show 8 hrs cause I swiped and work less due to people talking to me.

I told my mgr to basically f off about it. I told him straight up without me he would bye bye. I don't need this place. Lots of other places. Most stay only because of pto and the flex. But they're starting to get yippy.

RTO is, itself, "cheating the system". Nothing has tanked production and motivation more. I used to work 50-60 hrs a week on average and I was highly motivated. Loved it. Now it's pretty much 8 and done. I drive around cities for absolutely no benefit. I sit in a building for net negative benefit. We could save billions of dollars per year if we fully embraced WFH, but all they care about is tormenting people until they leave. They don't trust me, and now I definitely don't trust them.FHY. I'm here for my severance, so whenever they want to start writing those checks I'm ready.

@ab Also could be that if they give a hard requirement, then people would meet it, and they’d lose a handy “gotcha” they can pull out of their back pocket for when they need to d*ck some people on their performance review to save bonus pool money.

The million dollar question is why haven’t they put an in office hour requirement in writing if they care so much? My guess is the ole tricky grey area of having to pay exempt employees overtime is why.

@a4 They don't care. Nobody I work with is in my city and they're in multiple places. I could easily just work remotely.
Comments on meetings from leaders I've heard are they know people are leaving early, they know people are just badging in, then leaving soon after.

The question should be, are you doing your work? This isn't K12, where people must sit on a mat for x time and not speak. My office has no co workers, and the people there are mainly Indians who give threatening glances. I don't feel comfortable working there for safety reasons.

They a running more data to look at how long people are logging in or badgering in. There are some crazy stories out there with what people are willing to do just to appease RTO. It would be easier for these people to just come in than to try and cheat the system.
