Trust over surveillance

"You need a different social contract and to let go of control. But if you trust people and treat them like adults, they'll behave like adults. Trust over surveillance," Drew Houston (Dropbox CEO) told Fortune in 2023.

And along with their surveillance, they take the position of guilty until proven innocent. That is how the good ole boy SBC culture operated and it has not evolved at all.

@b6 The stock is up because we got rid of the boat anchors of Warner and DTV. That happened when we were remote. We also got rid of thousands of people in the name of ‘RTO’.

Doing Teams calls from dreary glass boxes instead of our homes has nothing to do with the stock price.

That’s like saying you lost weight because of diet and exercise while you’re eating a double bacon Whopper just after taking Ozempic.

"Welp. Let's check the stock price and see if RTO is working"

Any time you cut head count expenses it is going to have a positive effect on the income statement. Let's see Stankey grow revenue organically without putting the company into more debt. Yeah, that's not going to happen. Stankey does not know how to grow a company . . . ask TW. He sunk that company before he was removed as the leader.

I have ZERO trust for this company.. This RTO was a setup .. when our org ended up still having more virtual workers than FTO’s and then they lay off the FTO’s that were a few months away from R75. Ya, this company is all about integrity… all about integrity… my az..

Dropbox CEO Drew Houston says RTO is like trying to get people back into malls and movie theaters.
"We can be a lot less d-mb than forcing people back into a car three days a week," he said on a Fortune podcast.

@a4 That is EXACTLY what I am planning to write about in the free response. Leadership doesn’t trust its own products to connect people they way we say they do, doesn’t trust employees and doesn’t even trust themselves enough to record town halls any more. The guarantee is all about trust. If leadership doesn’t trust anyone why should customers or employees trust leadership?

AT&T “Leadership” flipped it and manages via surveillance instead of trust.

That conflicts with the harassment of fraudulent presence reports. What would middle managers do with their time if they didn’t have another harassment bs reports?
