What if the board had chosen a qualified ceo instead of BDB?

@a6p no chance. Walker and the rest of the amigos thought they were leaving their baby in the hands of someone who was Dril quip through and through. Per below, his mistake was letting a cuckoo (pun intended) into the nest
I personally believe what happened was all part of the plan to wind the company down for acquisition, certainly the appointment of bxxd and that would have been known by di--------y and the board of directors sitting waiting for the golden hand shakes and retirement.
No one expected anyone other than BDB to be CEO. I doubt even he himself would have expected one of his hires to kn--e both him and the COO in his pursuit of the top spot. All that was missing there was character due diligence.
BDB's biggest mistake was dismissing the energy revolution that was coming; his town halls dismissing renewables showed a complete lack of awareness and far too much personal opinion. Bh's ceo is another nepotistic ascent to power, but he completely got that global energy opinion was rapidly changing
What we did echoes through out history
i guess we’ll never know.
