Awesome. I really hope it works out for you and you wind up getting 'paid to go away' when you were going to retire anyway. Thousands and thousands of people that didn't want to leave were thrown out like yesterdays trash. At least some of us need to win this game, and I hope you do. I have a few years more until I'd like to retire, but hopefully I'll be fortunate in this respect as well. We can do this!

@abv+1srv3i2d My manager has asked me, subtly he thought, about retirement. I just shrug and say “No plans”. I’m sure it’s driving him crazy, at least I hope do.

Definitely get your severance man! Keep telling your manager about your long term plan to stay with the company, you'll get the sev eventually.

I’m retirement age. I could leave today and be fine, and some days I’m sorely tempted to just not show up one day - or ever again.

But I won’t because I have earned my severance package and I’m not leaving without it.

I think the reason I haven’t been laid off yet is that they think I will quit soon. I won’t. My health is great and the work is easy. If I thought my quitting would save a younger person’s job I might do it, but nothing I do will change anything, so I will wait them out.

Like the pay, like the benefits, like the flexibility........like the stability (if you call it that) in terms of regular, predictable pay and the fact that this is what I've been doing for the past almost 20 years.
One thing, and it's a very big thing, is that I cannot stand the work......and it's really because work in so many roles in this company has been reduced to pushing emails and sitting on calls that accomplish nothing. There's very little connectivity to why the job even matters and the 'work' we do certainly doesn't feel like it adds any meaningful value whatsoever. We do the work anyway, but it's just so hollow and lacking value-add. It's not the fault of the employees. We took these jobs hoping to contribute, add value, and have a good work experience. But many of us are stuck watching emails and wondering why we were cc'd on things that don't pertain to us, why we were invited to meetings with no subject/agenda and for which we sit on silent trying to understand WTF the point of it is, and trying to support our managers with whatever admin task they assign to us on a given day. So many control, risk, and audit teams were staffed so excessively in response to all these orders/enforcement actions placed on the bank and the result has been some teams are swamped with work while others are sitting idle with no real understanding of why they exist.

So why I'm looking forward to being laid off --- well, for me, I believe that if/when I leave this company, I won't regret it. It's just that things are too comfortable for all the reasons I mentioned for me to leave voluntarily. Part of that is because the market isn't great and it's not simple to achieve this level of compensation externally. It's possible, just not easy to attain. We're creatures of habit that like predictability. If/when WF pushes me off the ledge, and assuming I receive severance, I think I'll be very glad.

I'm not looking forward to it at all, but if they want to pay the severance, I'll survive.
