Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Telecom - wireline, at least - is supposed to be the good ol’ boys club.

Generic, consultant-driven headcount and customer base deflation takes the PHUN out of the PHONE company!

Wireline has geographic monopolies in several states, and ability to sell services over-the-top where we don’t.

At one point, Wireless had almost 100% profit from operations, with sound, paid-for capital investments that SIMPLY PERFORMED AS EXPECTED.

We didn’t need any additional guidance past reaching this point. If a painter keeps painting, eventually he will ruin his masterpiece.

If we keep pushing in the same direction despite diminishing returns, it just turns into active sabotage.

Many years ago, a Director I had said "we sold air" and she was completely correct. I often times wonder what is it with all the BS in the company when we really just need to focus on the customer instead of silly internal metrics

@f4 before we “touched every tower” for “Real 5G” - something that NO ONE paid attention to. All they saw is that AT&T rolled out 5Ge faster. Now we’re up to our eyeballs in debt over SEMANTICS.

@aj we’ll just pull all the free backhaul from wireless and make them pay for 40 gig transport at market rates to some other carrier. Good luck with your margins!

I remember a CEO from that side of the house who looked down on wireline with disdain and utter disgust, not knowing it was his bread and butter, his benefactor, his DADDY.

I never felt management on the wireless side were innovators, but the got a lot of credit for succeeding in a monopolistic setting.
They reaped in the profits and looked like heroes because there were no equal challengers, at the time, in terms of quality service, and they were subsidized all the while on the backs of wireline, in ways their competitors were not and could only envy, IMO.
