Got laid off in November. My supervisor set up a calendar invite at 5am, with no title or agenda. No secret what was coming. She told me at 8am that I was being laid off, etc etc. But, the highlight of the entire 5 minute meeting was at the end when she said to me, "Have a nice day".
She could not lead a bunch of people to McDonalds. Even if she had gift certificates.
@tr Not true, layoffs are all of the ways people have listed. Group, HR, 1:1. Depends on your org and how they are done.
This is sus. direct manager never delivers the bad news. They just there as heavy breather and the next level up reads the script or the HR robot does the deed.
@ak UHG is full of these types of people. And it seems like they send one or two here to respond to each post, mocking OPs.

Lack of compassion and empathy such as you have displayed has a way of coming back around. If when it happens, if you remember your words and lack of empathy, part of me feels sorry for how miserable you will feel. But another part of me hopes you learn a valuable lesson that changes you for the better.
"Have a nice day" was probably part of the script they have to read verbatim. Most managers do have empathy but she definitely could not read the room.
To the butthole below, have some compassion for people who are losing their jobs. Maybe you are on the June 25th list.
