Hiring Freeze Details

Anyone know how long this is going on or how long it will continue? Any details would be appreciated.

Our req was frozen for about 5 weeks and was unfrozen early this week. Shannon signed off on the req being unfrozen. I think they're working through the full list one req at a time, some are getting cancelled and some are allowed to move forward. At the end of the day, everyone says their team needs to hire.

Alejandro doesn't need to approve unless he's your EC member. So if you're in ops, then yes he needs to approve along with Shannon. Otherwise it would be a different EC member plus Shannon.

@ap+1jv8ctg6g why? Only to be rated poorly and get shown the door? There's no point to getting a role with this place as it is short term anyway.

Down 6 people in last month we get 1 temp to replace in an already underwater team.

it is becoming super competitive now. BNY wants to act super exclusive when hiring. the only way in now is through campus program or by knowing someone and being from a top company

When has there not been a firing freeze? My team in the US hasn’t hired a new person since 2015/2016. The only “new” people we had were lateral moves from groups that downsized and for some reason we had an opening they could be moved in to until more layoffs happened.

No US-based employees have been hired in my group since 2011.

We had a few SMEs just quit, and I could see more people bailing because of 4-day RTO in September.

I've noticed a few high-level people abandoning ship in India, too. If I'm still here in a few years it'll be interesting to see what happens, but I have a feeling I'll be elsewhere and viewing these posts with a sense of schadenfreude.

My area has only hired contractors and has not hired them on as full timers in about 2 years now. It is generally hard to move in this era of the company without knowing someone

Expect the worst. Cutting expenses is the only tool they have to boost the stock price. Cutting headcount or not hiring is the only lever they can pull to reduce expenses.

I overheard any hiring need approved at the Dermot/Alejandro levels

Seems to me this freeze has been going on for nearly 3 years. The only ones we have been able to add is in India. Even Florida reqs got shot down. Even when we have people who quit ( lucky so and so’s!) we cannot hire them in NY or PA and so, we lose the req. As such we are getting less done with less people.
