Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Have they started the downstream layoffs yet? Very curious who is going to be effected and everything seems to be so hushed around the office

Lol the Ohio comment is so true. Imagine big tech companies hiring out of North Dakota instead of Silicon Valley. Sigh

The difference between Shell and CVE….CVE is bush league oil company trying to recruit everyone else’s leftovers to the middle of b-m fu-k Ohio. LAUGHABLE. Houston is where it’s at for oil and gas talent and they aren’t risking a relocation to a cornfield for a struggling wanna be company on the verge of going under. Hmm where do I sign up??!! Lmao.

My post was taken down yesterday. What I said was related to age discrimination in layoffs. I asked if it was worth it to talk to the union site rep. about organizing the non represented workforce at my site. Now that we have the layoff notice it seems like a good idea as cenovus seems to have a past pattern of age and gender discrimination. I guess just looking at all the women they have let go recently only to continue to perform worse…..

As an industry investor, I love this page. It gives me a nice read on the culture and leadership. There is little confidence in this regime’s ability to deliver shareholder value. The bleed is now so significant that the logical solution is to replace the leadership and make some quick decisions in divesting downstream. I see some pretty harsh analyst reviews coming.

The main characteristics to be hired and retained by CVE are 1) close friend, neighbor or relative of leadership who shamelessly strong arm hiring managers via a referral 2) no experience related to the job in order to prevent you from being more effective then the hiring manager 3) currently sleeping with hiring manager or potential to sleep with hiring manager 4) so incredibly d-mb that you won’t identify and report corruption

Be sure to review Cenovus in Glassdoor. That is a platform that job seekers can go read. After reading all of these threads, it sounds like many of you would give 1 star , if that.

It’s not a rumor - the timing is in the next two weeks for affected people to be informed, and to apply for relevant positions. Preference for regional candidates. Note there are no more VPs / organizational heads in Calgary. The newly hired VP to replace the one they just canned is in the us, external hire, hasn’t communicated yet. Intent is to finalize early May.
That’s the most communication we’ve had and it was through an email. We’re just watching to see who moves offline in the system and trying to keep morale up especially for the juniors and people newer to the company. Extremely weak leadership handling of this reorg. Not a great way to treat people

So just a rumour as with most things here…

So basically they are going to post new job openings internal and external in Dublin Ohio for US Downstream? Then anyone internal or external can apply and no preference is given to internal candidates? Sounds like another way to hire friends and family and cleanly lay off the existing workforce at the refineries that have been carrying the weight while they fu-k around for two years. What a bunch of bullsh-t. This company is a sorry piece of sh-t.

They are focusing on Calgary now, not sure why they book Lloyd.
