Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Who cares about what comes next?

I’ll just be here until I’m laid off. In the meantime, I’ve been making sure to stay up to date on my skills, constantly checking for other opportunities, and not really caring about what happens with CC. It’s not like any of us can influence the decisions being made. I accepted long ago that I’m just a number. I can be the best at what I do, but I can be replaced any day by someone willing to work for less. We don’t have careers—just paychecks.

I was a Sprint FTE when T-Mobile acquired Sprint. As part of agreement, Sprint employees were barred from layoff for 1 year. Guess what happened after 1 year passed..........

Yup, Laid off without a severance.

@ay+1jq50ay47 So you’re saying the next layoff will offer no severance? How do you know for certain?

Those thinking there will be any more Severance packages are sadly mistaken. What incentive exists??? Staffing is NOT a Crown problem anymore. ZAYO and EQT have ZERO reason to pay Severance.

@a8+1jq50ay47 None of us will get fired. There’s a difference between being fired (aka terminated) and laid off. No one will be fired after the sale, they will be laid off.

  • Fired = no severance, no benefits
  • Laid off = severance, unemployment benefits

There will also be a large chunk of Crown staff laid off before the sale closes. It’s inevitable.

Yeah. You won’t get fired till after the sale. They have contracts where they need to bring over a certain number of people. Keep coasting!

I completely agree. As much as it su-ks to have your job totally out of your control, this thing is already a hot mess. If I had to guess, it will go through just fine, but it will take forever. And it looks like Zayo/EQT isn’t going to help much. The work it’s going to take to separate the two businesses will be brutal, and unless you sc--w up, you’re not going anywhere till you either join EQT or get let go day 1 by Zayo. Get your skills ramped up, resume freshly polished, and attitude adjusted to get this thing over the finish line. Or leave and do something that makes you happy. I feel relieved that at least we know what’s happening. Good luck everyone, and I’ll probably be seeing you for the next 10-15 months.
