Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon no longer sponsoring Corporate Classic 5K in Morristown?

Outing myself as a NJ resident; I participated for many years at the Verizon Corporate Classic 5K in Morristown that benefits the JBWS organization (supporting DV victims in the area). It was always a fun event to participate in with coworkers and family members. As far as I know, Verizon was always the premier corporate sponsor for this thousands-large event every July, organizing everything down to the (talented, classically trained!) singer for the National Anthem.

I got laid off this past November; I was happy to see an email come through my personal account letting me know the race is still on for this summer. But the branding looked totally different. I went to verizoncorporateclassic dot com, and it redirects to morristowncorporateclassic dot com with no indication whatsoever that Verizon is sponsoring it. At least it still benefits JBWS.

I guess Dan really is cutting all the fat, huh? even some of the lean?

Dan needs to can the F1 sponsorship. That deal only exists because Lowell likes race cars. No way is that deal helpful to Verizon

Dan no like sports. Only herding cattle and destroying corporate cultures. Wanted to end the NFL head injury sponsorship, but Hans signed a contract they can't get out of. Notice how the new corporate classic site shows no Verizon runners in its photos? Sounds like this divorce was not welcome over at JWBS.

Coach Mark was having his "trainers" care for personal items at his house on the company dime. Even his BFF Lowell could not save him. Regarding the Corporate Classic, RUN WITH HANS!!!!

@b6 Coach Mark! Wow, those were the days …. I forget why he got fired though. Some sort of scandal-adjacent behavior. Does anyone remember? That was back when Hinshaw was CIO …. I remember he chose to leave once Verizon was engaging with VzI ….

I haven't run in the Classic since Coach Mark was there.

@a4 Wow. Thanks for the heads up - not surprised, Verizon is NOT what it was. Not by a long shot. Ugh. I miss what it once was, but I got laid off anyway. Genuinely good wishes to everyone still there. It’s remarkable to see all the but-kissing on LinkedIn for Verizon posts … desperate to look important and relevant.

As a Vteamer family member that identifies as a runner and loves where I work and loves what I do, I was looking forward to doing a LinkedIn post about how great my life and company are at the 5k. I pray to the post it notes that leadership brings back this authentic and meaningful sponsorship to delight our vteamers. Let’s go team!

Someone asked this question on the company slack channel. They got a response saying VZ is no longer sponsoring it.

Dan has no interest in running races, he'd spill his coffee.
