Ford using purchase service employees-Under the Radar

For management have been using purchase service employees for years because they are not showing up in the headcount. The funding is from a separate program funding so it's also under the radar. These purchase service employees are costing the company millions each year a d they are not contributing to the company at all. They are hired because they know the management and buddy with management. This is a bunch of BS. Any LL level who have purchase service employees must be fired. This is unethical.

Ford Agency here. In the "outside world", I have seen many times that employees don't have the knowledge, skills or time to do a project, and the company brings a bunch of contractors until the project is done. Usually contracts are between 6 months and 1 year, renewable, with some contracts lasting 2-3 years in total.

However, I know Agency folks that have been at FMC for over 15 years. Which doesn't make much sense to me. What project could last for 15 years? If these Agency people are really needed, why not ensuring they stay around, by converting them to Ford FTE after one or two years? Instead, I know a few Agency folks that were converted after 10 years, just to be let go as employees a year later. So now I am wary about becoming an FTE at Ford. It seems the "winning" hand for non managerial positions here is to be a contractor, even over the PS folks.

Ford is a weird company for sure.

I have seen few F&F retire only to come back as PS personnel after “establishing” their own company. There was no competitive bid, no interview, nothing but nepotism with F&F.

"..Making good money AND helping Ford leadership solve problems."

Oh do tell what kinds of problems you are solving. I don't doubt the making money part. But solving problems? C'mon grandpa...let's get you home...lol

It doesn't matter. Why does the company has a bunch of permanent salary employees and they go and hire a bunch of purchase service or agency employees to do the work for the permanent Ford employees?

Ford must get rid of these permanent employees if they are not doing the work. Get rid of all agency and PS employees as well. This will save the company $1b per yer at a minimum.

The area I worked brought on a bunch of purchased service people as direct hires. People on contract who were actual citizens had their contracts terminated.

$100-$200 per hour to the agency not to the contractor/PS personnel. No way. The worker bee sees no more than 65% of those hourly rates you boast. The supplier company gets the big cut not the worker bee

@b8+1jtb7ggy6 - PS and Agency have been dominating at Ford for many years. IT was less than 35% Ford personnel for a long time. Thinking nearly all PS have already been cut. Don't confuse agency for PS although similar funding is different. Nobody ever wants to be long term PS nor agency at Ford. Yet the company has been saving for many years and still can't get it together thus why LCC sourcing.

This has been going for sometime where certain Ford managers retire followed by working for these contract companies and the hand shake is complete.

The purchase service employees that I am seeing at the plants are from the local contractor. When you pay $100 per hour, these PS employees are making a ki-ling.

Collaboration is much better when working from home because I am more socially comfortable if I am drinking a cup of coffee and looking out the window of my house. Looking out of a plant window at smokestacks saps my collaborative energy to such a degree that I go into sort of a catatonic mode.

This has been happening for over a decade, and the bottom line is that it's all about cheap labor. Ford continues to bring in more H1B workers while outsourcing jobs to countries like Brazil, Mexico, and India. Meanwhile, employees over 55 are being pushed out.

I'm working from home now, but I keep hearing that we'll eventually have to return to the office. Let's see how that plays out.
