Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is there really a future here?

Debating whether it is worth it to be optimistic and see if there is opportunity for career growth here or if I should be looking for an exit / it is matter of time before it goes

@mgg+1npExIYQ- I think it will be more like 2024-2025. When the Dearborn Campus is done, there will be full RTO. Then the sla-ghter will begin.

No future here. Run ASAP.

I think Ford is going in the wrong direction hiring all staff out the country. They should partner with another OEM. Of course there may be some job loss, but not like this. If they reduce the NA headcount to low they are opening themselves up to an extremely risky situation. Again, the CEO and BF do not know what they are doing.

They did not invest all that money in brand new design centers outside of USA to provide a secure careers to USA salary employees. Look at the Mexico design center facility for example. Look out for your self.

@coa

I think there is not much hope as long as profit margins are miniscule. The Back to 10 initiative failed by most accounts. If you do have faith that Ford's current direction will allow margins to improve then you should probably stay.

Speaking of “futures here”, has people noticed their new posts disappearing?

This is the wrong place to ask these type of questions. This is an echo chamber for Ford hate and quiet quitters.

I can concur with your statement. A LL5 accidentally slipped up and mentioned a plan for mass layoffs.

Almost anything will be better than engineering. Game Warden - Work in the fresh air in the great out doors.

Work in a investment firm - learn how to make one dollar turn into two dollars.

Here is a good one... used car sales ... since we have to put up with BS from the management and company, we know all about BS, so we could make more money selling used cars. (actually, selling used cars doesn't sound bad..)

Engineering is becoming more and more of a dead field.

JF’s Ford + Plan 2023CY is fire 10,000 salary in USA 🇺🇸 while hiring salary jobs offshore in Mexico, India and Brazil. By 2025CY only 15% salary will remain here in USA 🇺🇸. So more firings in USA to come in 2023 and 2024. A good LL4 told me this after he was just fired last week. This is true and real.

I think if you are young and not an introvert I would pivot from engineering and train to be a nurse (RN). Salary is better than most engineering positions and the job security would remove most of the anxiety from your life.

pkl,

"moats of it" lol... I could see Ford spending millions to build a moat around the train station. Of course, the moat would have quality issues and flood the surrounding area.

The company will probably survive but moats of it will exist outside of the US.

No. There is no future here. There will be job cuts after jobs cuts, to move everything out of the US.
