Why are we paying useless PMO competitive salary when it’s just a mean boys and girls club? They function completely like admins and then each have a coordinator assigned to them as well to talk about the work the PM is talking about and to talk more about the work that needs to happen (with zero ability to drive the project or accountability). I have never seen a company where Project and Program Managers did less and had so much help for doing so little.

My PMO is useless and doesn’t even attend meetings. The setup itself is very off. He report to a manager who don’t care or bother but this PM work engineering team that is separate. No one knows where he is and if he is logged in or not. Sometimes he even sends out PTO just to engineering and don’t know if she is really on leave or just sending this and moon shining.
No accountability at all.
Most of them are H1B...send them back to their country.
A big part of a PM role is to maintain accountability across teams. A million reasons why this has been implemented incorrectly at Nike but that's not the point here......
OP first sentence alone screams of an ego wound for being held accountable to their own BS. Sounds like the function may be working better than they think.

I hear you OP. Project management was worth it's weight in gold 20 years ago. but it's morphed into spreadsheet and powerpoint SMEs who can't do much else. It's hard to find a PM in tech that actually came up from the ranks and understands the projects being managed.
Original poster, toxicity and anger directed at others is usually based in self loathing, insecurity and a void of intellect. Do some soul searching and discover what issues you are really battling. Your post so transparently demonstrates the above that it’s comical.

Below says pmo is project management office and it’s embedded in every org. I’ve never seen a PMo embedded in every org so I am asking what they actually are referring to. If it’s Ops, that’s not PMO. Ops is something totally different
Like Product Management or Project Management? Technical Product Management in IE is a total joke. They have NO understanding of the technologies they "represent". They have no accountability to ANYONE, they provide no value whatsoever. They are quick to share "their" wins, though - the work done by ACTUAL Engineers. In any other company, like Amazon/AWS who Nike is trying to model themselves after, the PMs would be experts, the best in the industry...not someone pulled out of the Operations Center.

@bbv+1r7FyWqa PMO is Project Management Office. It is embedded in each org. Mess with them and you are out :) they breed toxicity at Nike because they have nothing else to do other than pushing papers, creating useless meetings, and not owning any work or results.
They roll very closely with toxic leadership and tend to be highly opportunistic types.
