Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Let me repeat this again

It's better to be laid off than PIPed. Since they started putting people on PIPs, Exxon has saved millions on severance. I actually hope we have layoffs again, and soon. I don't want to be kicked out without anything if I can avoid it.

@OP Contrary to the common narrative, a layoff does not always come with a severance package. I know many people who were laid-off across different industries from 2023-2025 and got nothing on their way out, despite being tenured employees within their companies.

Large companies do their WFRs using PIPs now. They usually soften-up their workforce in advance by pulling perks, then tighten the sc--ws by implementing performance requirements that they know perfectly well most people can’t meet. Come review time, the lucky ones get a measly raise (or no raise at all), while the unlucky ones catch a PIP.

Real layoffs are way more expensive to the company.
The PiPs are effective and legally protected, since the paper you sign says any further legal action must be filed in a Texas court. Even if you work in Billings or Clinton.
There will never again be real layoffs by Auntie EM.
Many other companies do the same.

You are a commodity. And you can't change that.

@bc The 55+ who took the voluntary package got three months. Those who were NRE were safe and younger than 53 laid off got a little more based on years of service plus Cobra

Pretty sure we only have the people laid off in 2021 three months of pay, so there was no difference. It was disgraceful.
