Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Job market is looking bleak

I'm still going to apply to as many things as I can.

If I leave, I want to leave on my own instead of being invited into a meeting and getting axed by a souless HR.

Lots of available jobs in the market. Ford has over 800 openings.

needs to know what they will do to them.

Same thing any other employer will do to them when their services are no longer needed. So, your point?

And Ford is supposed to have a process if an employee is not a meeting expectations.
Ford is all about “follow the process”, right? If people were fired for poor performance, where was the process? If people were fired because their skills were no longer required, then why do they still have job postings for those same exact skills?
No, it’s not fair, and anyone considering a job at Ford needs to know what they will do to them.

No it’s not fair.
Firing people just because some manager has a big up his asset and depriving another area of the company that has openings you could fill also damages the company’s reputation for attracting the best and the brightest.

@qkl+1nvDj4pH Unfair? Pretty sure your offer letter specifies your position and responsibilities. Nothing about lateral transfers and other position, right? But sure … keep whining.

The unfair part is that they won’t even let you try to move to another group that is interested in you.
They’re firing us because some manager has a personal grudge against us. If this was not the case, they would have said, “we don’t need you here any more, but you can find another job in another group.”

First they came of employees of defense contractors (Clinton's defense drawdown), but I didn't care because I wasn't a defense contractor employee.
Then they came for front-line support employees (off-shored), but I didn't care because I wasn't a front-line support employee.
Then they came for computer janitors (off-shored), but I didn't care because I wasn't a computer janitor.

Now they come for automotive industry employees ... and there's no one left to care.

This is what stresses me out the most.

I could easily be next and need to be financially and mentally prepared that my paychecks could stop at any moment.

What do you mean? There are literally millions of $10-15/hour service jobs out there! 497k new jobs last month! Ultra low unemployment!

What a joke. Do not believe the mainstream media. The economy is in the cr-pper. Most people are underemployed that have a job. 90% of people are worse off than 2 years ago thanks to record inflation that continues despite all efforts. It is really tough out there, and finding a new job is a grind. Too many looking, too few actual openings.

I feel for anyone that was cut last week. You better tighten your belt and try to make that savings, severance and unemployment last as long as you can.
