Position moved to NC

I am sick to my stomach as I write this and filled with anger, frustration, despair, sadness.

I was told this morning that my position is moved to NC from Boston.

I have to tell my snake manager by the end of this week if I WANT TO UPROOT MY LIFE AND MOVE TO NC.

My last day till I have to find a job is end of August.

Why the he-l did they make me move from Florida if they ONLY wanted to let me go.

Every single will burn for eternity in he-l.

@OP Move/relocate to an area that you WANT to live. Never move just for a Job. It’s very typical for companies to fire relocated employees, usually within 2 years.

I was relocated to Charlotte years ago by a different company. And hated every day of living there.
I got relocated again, but this time it made sense. I’m in the land of opportunity so if I’m let go, I’ve got thousands of options.

Don’t make a senseless move.

What I'll say is you can take all your hatred and snarky attitude for ESL and shove it where your brain is.

This country is slowly going back to stone age and so is the attitude for some of these entitled folks in this firm.

Really sad state of affairs.

Ever consider that at least part of the reason why you're being pushed out is because of your subpar writing "skills"? Contrary to slackers' opinions, how you express yourself in writing does indeed have quite an impact on how others view you, especially in terms of discerning between those whose skills "still need a lot of work" vs. those exhibiting polished professionalism.

Pretty sure it's also you who's feverishly monitoring this thread, by immediately assigning counter-point plus and negative 1s whenever anyone disagrees with your stance, or challenges your mindset/attitude. So petty. So immature. So unable to learn from your mistakes.

Tsk, tsk.

Sorry you’re going through this. I am deeply ashamed of Fidelity’s lack of consideration for their employees as human beings, whose lives are being disrupted by out of touch decision makers.

The fact that they’ve done this to you twice because they couldn’t figure out where they “needed” people the first time is evidence of either a lack of planning in senior leadership or a calculated approach to disrupt lives and make people as miserable as possible. I’m convinced it’s the latter.

I may be asked to move myself soon, as my location is no longer one of the colocation sites for my team. We’re already having team members in my site leaving for other roles as they see the writing on the wall. I had been discussing with my husband about us potentially relocating if I was asked to, but I don’t trust they wouldn’t relocate me again or lay me off. I don’t trust Fidelity to make good decisions anymore, and I’m not uprooting my life and family for that.

Are they paying severance if you refuse the relocation?

You're coddling with hypothetical excuses and trying to guilt-trip via the empathy route, while others can see the situation for what it is, and are applying tough-love and common sense for clarity. Get real, the bottom line is: everyone is responsible for their own choices in life, and what the repercussions of those choices may be.

Also, why does your written communication read as if an ESL student wrote it?
Sharpen up on your English; you're almost there, but not quite.

You can't be serious, people move on their own is agreed thing.

Maybe when OP moved they thought this as a good opportunity, maybe they were promised promotion, raise, new career growth opportunity.

Considering the frustration from the post, it seems it wasn't too long before OP was communicated of their position moved to NC.

So it's understandable in the moment to feel anger, frustration, venting, hatred considering how the senior leadership is clueless about resource management, resource leadership, capacity.

The fact that you lack general empathy to show solidarity with fellow associate is really uncalled for, shame on you.

I can certainly understand your frustration and disappointment that the company is asking you to relocate on short notice and on your own dime. It's one thing if you are being promoted to a higher position with higher pay and the decision is yours versus a you need to move or find another position by end of August. Unfortunately, to me it sounds like Fidelity would like people to resign vs a layoff in which unemployment insurance kicks in as moving to another state takes time especially if you are a homeowner and have family that spouse has a secure job and kids are doing well in the current schools etc. If you're a twenty something then maybe moving would be a welcomed adventure. I also realize it can be hurtful if you've been a hard worker and dedicated to the firm to have little respect and regard to your contributions but gone are they days where a company actually cares about their workers hence workers not caring about the company in return so it is up to you to decide whether to go along or stay put and find another job. Fidelity's senior management is showing serious signs disorganization as proof of moving now disgruntled employees to another location to be toxic to the current employees and the fact because of this whole in work in the office bs they cannot get handle on capacity of locations. I wish you the best in whatever direction you choose.

You apparently chose to do so.

And now you're acting again as if you have no agency in your own adult life, by whining about how now you're being mistreated again by the same employer who "made" you move from FL to MA, with them now wanting you to make a hasty decision about uprooting yourself again, this time from MA to NC.

Why allow anyone to je-k you around?
You determine the parameters of how much you are willing to put up with.
Sounds like you've already made your decision.
Stay put, and just find employment elsewhere.
Simple as that.
Clearly, you aren't being valued where you are now.

But no one "made" you do anything.
You have free autonomy, and are free to choose where to live, and where to work.
Stop the martyr/victim act, and get a grip on your own life!

@ba LOL. Relocation = consider getting out of this toxic workplace. Co-locating is expensive, exhausting, and difficult for families. How about a guaranteed employment contract of say, 3 years or pay in lieu of, in the event of a company default?

Sorry this happened to you.

I know a lot of other teams are going through same bullsh-t.

When the RTO couldn't make enough employees quit this hellhole, the HR brings colocation push so that people continue to have their lives become miserable.

The leaders in Wealth indeed all deserve to be burn in he-l.
