I’d like to know how they can tell us we have to give 30 days notice so no impact or whatever but yet we don’t get the same courtesy from them as if it wouldn’t create the same situation they want to avoid smh BNYM can F off at this point.

True. Being surprised by HR, Perp walked out of the office and told that your personal effects will be shipped to you is the standard approach. I know of nobody who ever received their personal property. A few decades ago we all learned to strip our cubicles down to the bare minimum. I walked in and out with a lanyard, a wallet, a comb and a cell phone in my pocket.

There is difference between 'layoff' and getting fired for a reason. So the bank does give a notice which is basically severance for the years you worked here. I see it as an extra paycheck, usually i would only give 2 week notice. They can stop me from accepting the new job or come to work the last two weeks after I gave notice.
@moh+1ohMpCLH - really what advance notice are they giving you when its Same day? Yet expect some courtesy from us when they continue to show zero loyalty to employees. Yet now require us to give 30 or more days depending on your position or they’ll sc--w with your 401k or some nonsense. Just because they might offer severance , which isn’t even all cases, it means nothing. It’s still zero heads up to say you no longer have a job smh . this place has gone to cr-p and whoever is making all these decisions along with the 401k matching delays, hiring delays and everything else is running this place into the ground . Good luck telling your new job you cannot start for a month or more
I didn’t give them the required notice, but they were messing with me so didn’t try to fight me when I told them a much-abbreviated notice period would have to suffice.
I didn’t suffer any consequences. But they were vulnerable to legal action so wanted the problem to go away. Your leverage may affect the outcome.
The thing is, unless it’s a retirement, an employee who is leaving checks out immediately. Smart employers don’t want them around.
In my 35+ years of experience, "notice" is when an employer tells an employee that his/her services will no longer be needed in a date in the future. This is more frequent when an area/department/location will be closed, and notices have to be given according to state labor laws.
Being on payroll until the next paycheck is a courtesy of the bank. I've seen (and experienced) companies where they lay you off on the spot, and in the next paycheck you will only receive the days you worked until your dismissal, not the whole 15 days. So there is no "notice" there.
@bfw, and they're STILL on the payroll even though they don't have to come to work. Are you truly that dense that you didn't understand that?
Anyone know the threatened consequences of giving less than 30 days? I guess we'll find out soon. They just keep making this place worse.

I've seen many people going to a 11am "catch up" call to never come back to their desks, being escorted out to the door like they did something wrong.
Not true. People are surprised at their desks and led to a conference room. Then they’re perp walked out the door by HR. They are not allowed to return to their desks to gather belongings, but they tell the employees that they will ship their possessions.
Most people lose personal possessions.
Be careful: you may give 30 days notice, but your manager may consider that you being around may be detrimental to the department and ask you to leave immediately after you give notice.
Have a plan B in case you are scheduled to start a new job in 30 days, you may need to call your new company to see whether you can start earlier. Have some savings ready.
BK DOES give you notice. Just because you don't have to show up for work doesn't mean it's not notice. You'll get close to a month where you're a full employee with benefits plus wages then you'll get sub pay.
If you are leaving the bank, you can give ZERO minutes notice. If you are going to another department within the bank, then you have to give at least two weeks notice.
