BYOD Options

I’ve long resisted any sort of BYOD and have signed that I am not using my personal cell phone for business communication. However, I’m finding that due to some family situations that I may need to be away from my desk, say in a hospital waiting room, where instead of taking PTO I’m thinking if I have a tablet or 2nd cheap phone that I could still technically be working and at least checking emails and attending teams meetings/talking through teams if needed as showing available. For those who have BYOD, what have you found is the best option that doesn’t interfere with your regular phone?

I have a 2nd phone and line for BYOD and I don't regret it at all. I looked for carrier offers like add a line and get the 2nd line free.
It keeps my privacy from my personal phone. And the convenience of looking up and email/document when I'm not at my desk. I leave the byod at home on the weekends.

Just wait till you are forced to use personal devices to work when cloud PC gets sorted

If you want to count it as working, use a laptop. Phone will limit how much actual work you can do. I was in similar situation.

I got a 2nd line and phone for Byod and it works for me fine. I turn off when I’m not working and the bank can’t spy on my actual personal phone. It isn’t too much more expensive and your privacy is protected.

BYOD is not a big deal. It’s great to just go over to a folder where all the stuff is and do some quick work. Really useful on teams calls if you can’t be @ desk.

Just take your laptop and log in using your hotspot from your phone.

I added a line and got an Apple iPhone SE through a deal at my carrier. It is convenient to have a BYOD instead of lugging around a laptop if you just need to stay in touch, be on a meeting or check email.

Wait until the bank decides to confiscate your phone for whatever reason. With all your personal sh-t on it.
Better to tell them you lost it.

Samsung is the best phone for BYOD.
You have Outlook, Teams, Edge, OneDrive and OneNote.
It runs in a separate isolated container so work and personal do not mix. It will not let you copy/move stuff from personal to work or vice versa so no chance of private info leaking. Personal Apps and Work Apps are stored separately. You have to switch to the work tab to get at work apps.
I have been using it for years now. No worries at all. I routinely attend Teams meetings on my phone.

All tin foil hat wearers hang out together.

Having two separate phones is annoying as sh-t

If I am forced, I will get a separate phone and leave it at home when I am off the clock. The company can track you through the BYOD (Geo-tracking), they have access to your personal information and can track what you do (it's all in the fine print of the agreement). It's none of their business where I am outside of business hours and what I do on my own time. I spoke to several people in IT and other technology teams, none of them will put it on their personal phones, I thought that was telling enough to know my concerns were valid.

May seem like a hassle, but can’t you use the mobile hotspot on your phone to connect with your laptop?

The BYOD will not however be a “cheap phone” so you can forget that. Apple within 5 years and Galaxy 3-5 3 for sure. Remember these devices have to be receiving security patches and updates between Apple / Samsung and compatible with our network. If you are out of updates you need a new phone for BYOD so forget the cheap second phone

1 only a key list of devices and versions. Security updates to OS or IOS end so if you have an old phone or it is not and IPhone or Samsung you may not have the option. Tablet shorter list.

I have a BYOD iphone and iPad. I consider this to be a convenience for me to use and it is optional if i respond but i can see outlook, teams and intranet.

Um, yeah, let's all log into WF with a non BYOD device. Like that will work, right?

Are you asking what's better between a tablet and phone or which phone?

I have no problem with BYOD and love the flexibility it provides. I'm always on the phone anyway
