JD email did not say anything about those departments who were previously impacted but clearly says those who are NOT affected. Does it mean they strike again to those previously affected on Nov and Dec?

Two former Innovation employees left Lebron/Nike to go work at Lululemon. Brought their designs with them so Nike sued. I wonder if anyone let go will attempt the same. I know there’s a lot of risk to it. But disgruntled employees are a thing.
Also agree the NXT DPC team literally does nothing. Their VP gutted the NSS team to protect his team. I’m sure RC thinks he made the right choice but I sincerely doubt they won’t end up on the chopping block. Worked adjacent to them for 2 years and always heard he was a grade A pr--k.
Sad for TIO being gutted. They were a unique group who were trying to collaborate across Innovation. In spite of all the inflated egos and di-kbags who were hilariously defensive of their “original ideas” eyeroll
A lot of the Innovation folks are incredibly condescending. (Not all) the few good ones try and keep their heads down which means they don’t spend their spare time su-king up.
What is the difference between NXT DPC and DPC in Consumer Creation? They are different teams and I know they do different stuff everyone seems to be a bit frustrated towards NXT DPC mainly. Why?

To be fair nsrl leadership also has a habit of sh-----g on their best scientists and not elevating from within, while hiring empty shirts and talkers.
Just ask any nsrl scientist what the best innovations have been in the last 5-10 years and where those leading scientists are now.
Space team is headed by tinker and a group of good ol boy untouchables. I’ll be very surprised if they get cut. At most, their expendable doer minions will get axed, and the boys will be reassigned to some other cushy spot.
NXT in apparel has been a joke for a decade. Anyone who doesn't work in there, just rolls their eyes at what they attempt to bring to the table.
I was part of Nike Smart Systems. We reported up through NXT DPC. Smart Systems was hit very hard in December. That team was dissolved and does not exist. NXT DPC did experience a layoff but it was very small—a handful of people.
Going back to another topic. Space does exist, and has for a long time. Used to be referred to as ‘the kitchen’ and then ‘space kitchen’.
There are many other groups in Innovation inside of LBJ. FW innovation, apparel innovation, materials innovation, valiant labs…..
Nike has talkers and do-ers. The talkers tend to win these (and promotion) rounds

@guf+1rbhjnv2 has to do with where the costs sit on the balance sheet. companies can claim R&D for tax credits but it has to be accounted for correctly.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 removed the ability of companies to expense their R&D costs starting in 2022, meaning int he pay you can't deduct R&D costs in the fiscal year they were incurred anymore. The new system means you’ll need to amortize those expenses over the last five or 15 years.
Not sure how Nike is doing it but I don't think every single title with innovation is being treated as an R&D write-off outside of LBJ. That said, I don't think LBJ is functioning that well and I don't know many who would argue otherwise, so I'd be surprised if they kept it as-is.
TIO (Technology Innovation Office) is getting gutted so I think ELT/SLT are finally realizing having all these random 'innovation' teams that are not accountable on delivering anything, much less bringing anything to market in scale, is a waste.

The type of innovation coming from NXT is irrelevant. The teams are too small and don’t have enough hard science knowledge to make an impact.
BASF employs thousands of PhD scientists. NXT employs a handful of chemical engineers and a bunch of good ol’ boys.

Space team is supposed to do unconstrained innovation. It’s so unconstrained that they never deliver anything ever.
@zca+1rbhjnv2 yes. When I joined Nike I was told by multiple people hose teams are the most dysfunctional. Seems a common perception.
I don't understand how we are going to get after innovation with the same people and team structure. It hasn't worked before, or for a long time, so why would we leave it the same?

A lot of people think there will be. I have no inside knowledge, but I’ve heard from more than one person that DPC will get cleared out.
