Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Meta leads the way again Efficiency is where staffing is centered

Meta realized its costs were and are out of whack given its management team staffing. IBM needs to take these lessons to heart as they are the competition. Over the last 18 months Meta has reduced 25% of its headcount

I'm glad IBM isn't like Meta. It is not a company to emulate.

Numbers show otherwise; quotas for H1Bs and similar work visas are increasing each year dramatically and these workers are replacing American workforce by many dozens of thousands each year, while offshoring is also booming.

@bvt I’m not questioning your observation that US and Northern European workers are being replaced by off shored workers, BUT IBM and the Fortune 500 companies don’t have to use visa’s or H1B’s any more. They just hire offshore and bring them to the offshores local office. The internet and bandwidth does the rest. The Fortune 500 is chasing commodity labor, not skills

Across the industry, not just IBM or Meta, Americans are being replaced by cheaper, younger temporary visa based workers whether it’s H1Bs or other by the boatload, predominantly brought over from a south East Asian country.
Companies need a large pool of available qualified applicants to choose from competitive live test code interviews; then layoffs cycles arrive; rinse and repeat the process; that how you end up having a cut throat meat grinder south plantation sweatshop here in America

You can't do that at IBM because all those unnecessary Indian executives and managers would likely be out of a job for doing nothing but warming their chairs ; then Arvind Krishna would be in the hot seat (and his buddies Granger and Ali would never stand for it either). He would certainly lose his chance of getting yet another medal pinned on his chest by the Indian President Modi.
