@OP+1jmfgqspm, when you mention “Indians” getting ”RIF’d”, are you referring to H-1B employees who are finishing their 3-year or extended 6-year Labor Condition Application (LCA)?

”Last couple weeks there were alot of Indians got rif'd in Columbus and NJ, some in Plano. Are they going to target indians again next month?”[1]

The H1B Grader website is a great tool that retrieves data from various US government agencies such as the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the Department of Labor (DOL). The latest JPMorgan H-1B LCA report shows the start dates for incoming H-1B’s, including for the Columbus, NJ, and Plano locations.[2]

@bx+1jmfgqspm, sorry to hear about your situation. Just to be clear, you are H-1B, completed two, 3-year LCA’s, with one extension? Do you have a Master’s Degree? A PhD would be preferable. Lastly, what is the current 2. SOC (ONET/OES) code on your latest LCA? For example, the SOC Code below is 15-1252.00. Do a quick Google search, and select the ONET link. The SOC Code summary will provide a guide for the necessary baseline skills and proficiencies, but remember, the green card eligibility is tougher.

It's definitely concerning when your 5/5 performance doesn't seem to matter, when you have enough bandwidth for the whole year, and when management decides to retain someone who hasn't been productive for 6 months. This is especially troubling when it's time for your green card application and H1B renewal. It feels like pure discrimination. I've been working extremely hard for the past 7 years, yet they seem to give up on me when it's their turn to show some gratitude.

My guess, there will be at least 1,662 on the list!

”RTO Petition up to 1,662 signatures”
”Come'on let's at LEAST get this up to 2,000 by the end of the week! We can do this!”

Will this next round be ”Layoffs” OR ”Firings” disguised as layoffs? After all, how does a business handle a massive amount of Code of Business Conduct AND Non-Disclosure Agreement violations. A business cannot survive if a massive betrayal goes unpunished. Remember, employees are NOT the only stakeholders, especially for a bank; IT IS NOT YOUR MONEY!

I don't think there's any discrimination involved here. If you are laying off people evenly across all lines of business, you end up laying off more of those you have more of.

don't they get rid of consultants first, who are by coincidence from India?
hiring freeze at the year end has always been there, at least in CIB

I hear you, but that sounds like one scenario. We are ruffling the foundation of our government, yes. But we are also seeking to lower taxes on both us companies and personally. In addition we are throwing money at energy, AI, and crypto. These sectors in themselves will see growth but in addition to that when energy cost decreases the cost to create a product goes down. Coupled with lower taxes will encourage companies to grow, especially locally since foreign products will see a tariff.

The outcomes could widely vary and your concern is definitely not off but there is a lot more at play that offers potential than simply saying the government has been subsidizing us with funds they didn’t have and now that’s gone.

Idk about you all but I’m building generational wealth so short term $$ don’t matter to me. I expect things to get worse before it’s better but it’s going to be better at a foundational level, allowing my son to have a chance at a good life and good career. Kids from the last generation can barely hang on to a job, cry when they have to come into the office, and the workforce options have been slim for them to find an opportunity… hoping that changes for the next generation.

". Job market is slowly picking up so a layoff now is better than a layoff a year ago. "

No it's not. The previous market was held up by US deficit spending, 2.1 trillion, to give a US national debt of 37 trillion. We basically kept taking credit cards out to pay the other credit cards. Eventually as everyone knows this has to end badly.

I would doubt that ethnicity will have any place in the decision process. Some foreign sites might make it appear to affect one group over another but highly doubt that your ethnicity or gender will play a role.

I’ve been laid off multiple times from multiple of the large banks, even with strong scorecards. Some times the business direction hurts good people. It’s not any better at any other bank, promise you that.

Stressing about it only makes it worse. Job market is slowly picking up so a layoff now is better than a layoff a year ago. Every time I’ve been laid off my anxiety went through the roof thinking worse case scenario, but every single time things have played out well before my time ran out. I’m a believer that when one door closes, another opens.

Hang tough, friend! Everything will work out one way or another.
