Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do we have ANY anecdotes / data points about employment lawyer getting you a better severance

I don’t think there have been any, but figured I’d ask before signing the severance agreement in lieu of getting employment counsel in the mix. You have 75 days to sign or initiate a legal claim.

Most lawyers will consult with you for free. So maybe just set up a session to talk to them and see what they say. Understand this will cost you up front and generally there isn't much success unless there was something that happened which led to unfair targeting, etc. A firm helped me with mine at another company but it was initially related to a short term disability claim and HR getting involved with it which seeped into a layoff. It made it much more straightforward to deal with it and I got more than most, but it wasn't drastic like $6k more. The legal teams large companies work with are tough to fight against. So if you don't have extenuating issues around your departure, I would suggest meeting with a top notch employment attorney with good references and ratings and see what they say. It might be worth just don't what the other people here have said, move on and work on bringing life and joy back in. Good luck!

@cx+1jv6348eb In a world where all your creation in the workplace is owned by employer how do you even have your own intellectual property to wrangle over (putting aside anything you’ve created outside work, of course)?

For rank and file level staff, I am only aware of success using an attorney to protect the departing employee's intellectual property ownership rights. For C-levels, there has been litigation around things like financial terms and clawbacks.

@by+1jv6348eb you claim about a claim and 40% lift without any even-vague details. Would help to know more (if you’re not blowing smoke!).

Good luck getting any action out of the wf bureaucracy within that timeframe after you spend $ on lawyers. Just accept and move on.

I spent about 1000 trying to get lawyer to make a claim. The time to change your severance is at the time of hiring. Expect 3-5 hundred/hour lawyer bills -- for case evaluation.

You have 45 days, not 75. Read the fine print.
