Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

We're next

Once Chevron finishes cutting a fifth of its workforce and everybody notices that nothing changed (aside from employees being overworked, which no one will care about) everyone else will start copying them. Just watch as XOM announces something similar next year.

I see my earlier post on how easy it is to find 1 out of 20 people to be PIP'ed got 45, and counting, downvotes. I get it. I'm sure 50% of them are not even ExxonMobil. The other 50% are, you guessed it, those 1 out of 20.

We’ve dropped close to 20% in headcount since pre Covid. We carry a decent attrition percentage per year so we don’t actually ever need to do what Chevron is doing

CVX has had a horrible exploration program for over a decade. CVX essentially stopped exploring because of massive overspend on LNG. CVX projects organization is a massive cost overrun. With completion of major projects, like Gorgon, Wheatstone, Tenghiz, they have no new operated-projects (because of no new operated discoveries). Reserves are down (that is why they want Hess, but that is also non operated, plus Hess brings alot more people, who also must be laid off in 2026, if merger closes in 2025.) Hess people better pray the arbitration keeps them independent or many will be laid off. CVX projects organization is overstaffed with Tenghiz winding down. CVX refineries are overstaffed and still too many top bureaucrats in San Ramon. San Ramon should be closed and sold and remaining San Ramon staff officed in Richmond (in a trailor).

Do you guys remember in Bloodsport when Chong Li put that guy in the hospital and then looked at Frank Dux and said "YOU ARE NEXT!"

That was AWESOME!

They are just copying EM and are late in doing so. The show has finally dropped on their side.

This is likely a proactive move ahead of an acquisition. BP seems most probable.

@c6+1jkyx03sg I'm the owner of a couple of such places. Any EM willing to wind down are welcome... And there'll be no trouble, unlike in La Quinta... 😈😄

@bd+1jkyx03sg 90% of people who are pip’ed deserved to be pip’ed. Are you telling me you can’t find 1 low performer out of 20? Should you never let an employee go? If so then go to a Socialist/Communist country comrade!

And we use the same consultants, so no surprise on "structural savings" approach.

Someone should let the CVX folks know about all of the great new healthcare benefits coming soon...

If you read the comments from CVX, my take is their already behind the 8 ball on this and are catching up to us. The comment on "how and where we work" is all to familiar to us for the last handful of years. Additionally, they're at their lowest reserves on hand in over a decade. They're struggling now

OP, layoffs imply severance. This ain't the Darren Woods' way. He'll just increase the % of NSI this year and good employees will be pushed out under the excuse of "low performance". No severance. No fault of ExxonMobil. It's all the employee's fault. Darren's been doing this for seven years now, he'll just make it worse. Guys, if you ain't an Indian employee IN INDIA you're totally fu---d. Look for another job elsewhere LIKE RIGHT NOW.

We had 80K employees a couple years ago, and now we’re below 60K.

I think they’re copying us.

Next year? It will be this year, with the government layoffs, a lot of companies will jump at laying off more employees without much negative feedback.
