Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It had to be AT&T right?

I was listening to the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast when he mentioned a corporate gig with an unnamed telecommunications company after the Time Warner merger. Something along the lines of 12 men (c-suite types) in leather recliners in a room just disinterestedly watching him do his bits while the company's "famous logo" was projected on a mountain in the distance. Said it made him feel like a clown performing and the whole thing felt evil (literally his words) and he left shivering at how it made him feel. It was bad enough to make him not want to do corporate gigs.

That had to be Randy and Stankey right? Maybe even Legg.

Listen to the "Jim Gaffigan Returns Again" episode from 11/25/2024 around the 36 minute mark to hear it for yourself.

I believe Conan made a joke about Stank looking like a balding version of Lurch from The Addams Family. Needless to say, egos were hurt.

Conan performed stand-up at the WarnerMedia Upfront held at Madison Square Garden in May 2019.

@cq Sorry to burst your bubble, but the timeline Conan describes lines up with AT&T's Time Warner acquisition, and Time Warner owned Turner Broadcasting at the time which is where Conan's show was hosted from. It can't have been anyone else.

@aq We don't hire what sorts of people? Conan? Or self-important c-suite types that feel big making their new pet perform for them while they project their logo on a mountain?

Time Warner merger was announced 2016, completed 2018, sold 2022. Probably Randall, stank, Jason kilar.

Though what I remember most around that time is Brian Shay and Glenn Lurie wearing game of thrones t-shirts over their button downs pretending like they knew anything about entertainment.

Also the comment about the company doesn’t hire those types of people is so far off. You have no idea who has traveled on any of the company’s 9 corporate jets. No idea how many there are now but it was 9 a decade ago. Here’s a fun follow up, type pilot into the title field in webphone and see how many come up.

Doubt it. T does not hire those sorts of people. I think our reputation proves that.
