Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Dropping Like Flies

I love seeing Cengage crumble through this gossip site and my friends eyes who still suffer there until they get a new gig.

I get calls from professors asking for help lol. I just recommended other publishers.

@f2 The strange wording leads me to think she saw the writing on the wall and worked out a deal to resign with a nice package

Did she leave voluntarily or was she fired? The email seems to dance around the reason for the departure. Nothing on LinkedIn.

"We've evolved how we operate by strengthening our enterprise Marketing and Revenue Operations capabilities."

Marketing has only evolved to more ego and fewer results, yikes!

@d3
"School team,

After 14 years with Cengage, has decided to leave the company to spend more time with her family and take some time to think about what's next for her professionally. Her last day will be July 7.

While I'm excited for her and this next chapter, I'll also miss having her on our team. I've had the opportunity to work alongside over the years and have watched her grow into an outstanding leader. She's made a real difference through her work and through the way she's shown up for this team, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

As we move forward, we'll begin the process of filling this role. We will also continue the process of hiring the Sr. Director, Core Portfolio role. In the meantime, we'll work together to ensure a smooth transition.

I also want to acknowledge something that might be on your minds. We've had several leadership changes across the School business recently. While each of these decisions has been personal and for different reasons, I know that doesn't necessarily make the pace of change feel any easier.

As I shared last month, we've evolved how we operate by strengthening our enterprise Marketing and Revenue Operations capabilities. While our School organization will continue to have dedicated Sales and Portfolio leadership focused on the unique needs of the K-12 market, deeper partnership with Product, Marketing and Revenue Operations will enable us to move faster, better serve our customers and capture the opportunities ahead.

What I want you to know is this: my confidence in this business hasn't changed. We are investing in the School market because we believe in the impact our products have in our customers. Together, we will build on that foundation to deliver meaningful outcomes to every classroom. That’s how we will sustain growth, both for our business and our colleagues.

Please join me in wishing the best and thank you all for everything you do every day. "

@a4 I think there's substantial restructuring to be done in "School" to make it look like Higher ed. I looked at the org structure and the old titles are still being used, such as portfolio director, portfolio manager, etc. In higher ed, these titles have been rebranded as editorial director, editorial manager, and so on. This would mean more layoffs in School. No wonder AT left. Maybe one of the VPs of higher ed will absorb her role.

@b2 Another Florida rep

NK is faking it and will never make it.. MH has placed too much responsibility on him and he will not succeed. His vision of an ED Tech company is flawed. Why? because he has never been in sales nor has he ever sold anything in his life. He has been trying to sell the doomed vision to the employees, while he hides his deep insecurities. It must be just be awful for NK knowing that he is not capable, due to a lack of experience. MH should be ashamed of himself, destroying the little self confidence NK had. NK is a follower not a leader and there is nothing wrong with knowing your strengths and weaknesses. You should never try to be something that you are not NK.

This place is a mess. Texas and Florida have always been the two money making states, but the south Florida territory had two reps let go, and the 3rd resigned yesterday. So no Reps currently in South Florida. Texas largest Account the rep resigned because the company moved the sales to April and refused to put it where it belonged in March. Any other employees exited from Texas or Florida?

NGL/ELT team that was let go, were told that an error had occurred and freight needed to be billed to all of their accounts, which caused their numbers to drop to low 90% or even in the 80's. The team named the event "Freight-Gate". Because they branded Cengage's attempt to cheat them out of their bonuses, miraculously, they found some dollars, so in the end they received a small portion of their bonuses ( ranging from $16,000 to $24,000) .

We need to get creative and Brand the other lies and cheating tactics management has been unleashing.

Publishing is a dying industry, you need to get out. These are mentally ill people who are only tasked with getting rid of you first, so that they're not next.

I was surprised at the wording of NK's email to "School Team" today about AT leaving the company. Made it sound like her choice yet doesn't sound like something she would do voluntarily since she has been so sickeningly rah-rah
