Finally free! Looking for practical advice before resigning

First thank you to this community for all the early info & giving me the confidence that I wasn’t alone in feeling this way.

9 year g-n who interned and hired on. The company has changed and I’ve finally had enough.

Couple questions for this board:

  • what vacation is payed out? Should I take all my comp & carryover?
  • is there a practical way to negotiate the annual compensation value of the pension with new company? Pension tool not helpful
  • print out any important health documents
    Any other tips?

Also, for those wanting to leave… yes it’s not the post covid market, but there are companies looking for talented employees. If you are here you are talented and will be valued elsewhere.

Go to HR and asked to be PIPed. Will get 3 months pay.

A friend of mine did this a few years back. They did it without question.

@qt What do you mean it increases your credited service? Thought you were paid out for unused vacation.

Use up your vacation ...it effectively increases your credited service. Then negotiate for your first vacation at new employer...usually can start at 4 weeks.

@d6 Per EM connect:

“When can Vacation Pay-in-Lieu be made?
Pay-in-lieu is allowed for unused earned vacation (including carryover) in cases such as required by law, leaves of absence extending through year end, termination, retirement, or disability. Payment is generally made within 30 days after the approved request or termination date.”

Question is, what is the definition of termination? Termination of employment? Being terminated only (fired)? Does this include resignations?

Carry over vacation is likely lost, not paid out.

Have your resignation date to be at the beginning of the month so that your health insurance lasts through to the end of the month.

Assume that you will be walked out immediately and prepare accordingly. Even though you probably won't be walked out immediately, it's better to be prepared as if you are.

Be gracious and professional with everyone. Don't burn bridges for your sake. You never know when it might come back to bite you if you aren't.

Make sure you have paycheck stub. Might not hurt to print out your info from Career Connect or what ever you are using now. Supervisor submits your form for vacation payout but stay on top of it. You should get the option to take your pension within 90 days. Print out any contact info you might need from XOM.
