What happened ?

He was a people person, always trying to keep everyone happy. But when it came to making real decisions about the product line, especially storage, he kept making one bad choice after another, and eventually the quarterly results showed it. People started asking: what’s so special about PowerFlex, and where does it really fit in the portfolio? Why are we still selling PowerMax? And how come PowerScale can’t seem to compete in the age of AI?
And don’t get me started on PowerStore, ten years to build another unity array ?
TV, JC,
First of all, you need to learn how to butcher your text and sentence structure better to make it look like you're a foreigner. Yours isn't even close. Too obvious.
Second, making a lot of money from stock given by Dell doesn't make you smart, it makes you undeservedly priveledged, especially when you don't deserve it. Travis didn't deserve it.
Third, Travis V was dummb as shiit. He had no business being a SVP at Dell, or anywhere for that matter. He couldn't understand or comprehend technical concepts if his life depended on it. Frankly, it's shocking how long you, JC, and MD let him continue to fake it. We all knew he was faking it. He was fired when he could no longer fake it with partners and customers any longer as we got deeper into AI initiatives. He barely knew what the acronym stood for. He was truly dummb as shiit, nobody can argue that. That's an immutable fact!
I see people here and I can't think but - are they ALL working for DELL ?
All arrogant , speak of TV as they'd know 'all better' and can't really come up of what happened.
Let me tell you - TV was SVP and at that level - he got to vest all his shares for next 3 years - the day he leaves DELL - means NOW
Advanced payment of several millions $ ... and you say 'he didn't know a thing'. You'd wish to be 'fired'. as he did.
He cashed out - moved on perhaps retire and enjoy life when most here be complaining and bragging ... how good they are - on THE LAYOFF page .
Pathetic
people that can't connect dots telling TV 'he wasn't good enough'
Agree, TV was a waste of space. Good riddance.
@ja You may be part of the problem then. Travis V was the least helpful bag of hot air ISG has seen. Nice enough guy but a complete bag of hot air. Useless
Surprised to see this reaction. I worked with and around Travis for years and thought he was intelligent, helpful, and very passionate about storage and Dell success. Will be interesting to see if they will replace him with someone you would find more suitable to grow the biz better. I know it’s tough fighting for resources in the face of competing with pure-players all focused only on storage.
Oh wow, good move. Travis didn't know shiit from Sh----a.
We just ignored anything he said anyway. He made no sense.
He was paid the salary of 10 people yet he didn't do 1/10th the work of one.
Good move to get rid of that stuffed shirt. Now keep going Dell. His downline is still full of stuffed shirts.
@OP Oh, good, I always thought Travis was in way over his head. He couldn't understand any technical discussions at all. There are more like him still here though.
I'm not one to stand on someone's grave but I have to admit, I was so happy to see this! Travis V was totally and completely incompetent.
He couldn't articulate a vision, he had no idea how to organize his downline, and he had no technical background whatsoever. He couldn't explain any of our solutions. I remember having to speak to him like a kindergartner just so he could understand what we were trying to build. He still didn't get it. He was useless to Dell. Good riddance!!
@cy when you say nepotism, who was he connected to through family?
Please tell OSB is finally removed
@d9 Travis V was totally let go or fired (same thing really at his level).
His bounce back email says he's no longer at Dell and to contact Gil S or George P for all other requests.
Good riddance d-bag!! Now to get rid of his assss kissers who are just as equally incompetent.
This person, like other people on linkedin, have given this long message that makes you think, has he been let go, has he left to go somewhere else etc etc.
I never thought being incredibly grateful for being prodded to leave is so amazing.
Flatter doesn't necessarily mean faster and more efficient. You need smart and effective people in the first place to understand what needs to be done. I don't see a lot of smart and effective people. I see apathy as a result of the cuts. I see people cutting then seeing the stock price go up and then said people say, Mission Accomplished More Shareholder Value.
@ct Well it's about fcking time!!!! I have never listened to more word-salad presentations and complete bull shiit than listening to Travis V spew diarrhea of the mouth in a presentation. He had no prior experience. Only hired because of nepotism.
You said one of the goals was "increased accountability" below. I'll believe that when I see it. Leadership at Dell hasn't been held accountable for their own failures in decades. Let's hope so but that part of Dell's diseased culture is going to require getting rid of people like JC and others who refuse to hold leadership accountable. I don't see that happening broadly but we can only hope.
Travis V Is a good start though. I give credit but he should have been gone long ago. Same with numerous other dimwits under his org who have no clue what they're doing.
Product managers got put under the bigger engineering umbrella which is stupid on its face but ok. So he saw the writing on the wall.
which one, V?
What other VPs got the boot?
Thank God! That guy truly was d-mb as a rock. Nepotistic hire who couldn't fake it anymore.
When will Jeff go?
Betting he got a sweet separation package, huh?
Finally!! That guy was pure shiit for brains. He had no idea what he was doing. He couldn't answer a single technical question. I remember him asking a question in a meeting once, "What's a hypervisor??" Good Lord!!
Layer of vp's removed.
