Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

El Chevron Way

The Chevron Way was imposed by CEO Dave OReilly to try and rein in some of the good old boys and their blatant behavior, especially given the influx of Texaco cretins at the time. Over the years we have seen many examples and counter examples of this behavior. I have seen and heard it all, from bottom slapping ladies to filthy racist jokes. Is it still relevant?

@dbun That's good to know. How long have you been with Waste Management and do they treat you well?

@duvw, that’s correct. Bollinger Canyon Road is the principal street address, whereas Chevon Way is the name of the side street where our waste dumpsters are located. It’s the principal street for Waste Management Co to collect the rubbish at 3 AM in the morning. So, much little the slogan we tend to use a lot, it’s also rubbish.

I lost count of how many times they renamed the driveway in San Ramon.I guess it is currently Chevron Way, but it is nonsense because nobody uses that as a street address. We use Bollickser Canon instead. So much for copying Apple.

Chevron paid a lot of $$$ to consultants for all the catch-phrases. Show some respect ....hehe

Recalls the days of Quality Improvement training, Safety Standdowns (when we realized that Houston & San Ramon staffs had higher lost time rates than the refineries and the upstream operations) and my personal favorite "Career Development" (when the employee was told that they needed to take responsibility for their own career— DUH !)

Meaningless catchphrases aka bulls hit

Accelerate down stream, more with less, winning in any environment, lean sigma, human energy, fail forward, earth sciences, agile, all of these are meaningless mumbo jumbo. I could add more but to tell you the truth I have better things to do now and I have forgotten many of them

Chevron has a long history of British executives for some strange reason.

The next EVP Upstream will be legacy Texaco, from a refinery no less! So be careful what you say!

OP, your phrase, “influx of Texaco cretins”, is priceless. I couldn’t describe them more precisely. Thanks.

Yep, had a manager who openly discriminated against older employees, all the time. He has hired at least a dozen people from his village in the UK, sponsored them, then promoted them. The reason for hiring expats in US payroll was, internal candidates were older and will retire in next 20 years. Interestingly, senior management knew about it and only thing they did was to curtail the sponsoring program.

I have had multiple bosses who violated the Chevron Way continually. They bullied, demeaned, screamed, yelled, cheated, lied and discriminated blatantly. Their bosses loved them because they were s— ups.

They don’t really talk about it anymore. We have moved on to other silly catch phrases instead.
