Layoffs are occurring

How is one rewarded for long hours, team player mentality and flexibility? Laid off after the required 2 week vacation, of course.
The sad part, I'm not even that upset because I hated what the culture had become.
I'm currently seeing if I can negotiate the sub payments (it's not prohibited in the paperwork). I was told 3% of the workforce was to be laid off just FYI. Good luck

@1jrg, you weren't laid off, you were fired to reduce workforce. Or at least to move your job to some place they think is cheaper.

I was told last week. It is a "reduction in workforce", I received good reviews and was productive. So, yes, it was called a layoff, non performance based and the sub is 2 weeks for every year you've been with the bank. Timing was cr-ppy but when is it ever good to be unemployed. I'm shocked at people who are so angry and nasty stating bny isn't letting people go. They are. Also, assuming it was a fault of my own. Must be Robin in here commenting haha.

At BNY it used to be mandatory that everyone take a continuous 1 week or 2 week vacation based on how sensitive your position was. Now mandatory vacation is only required for employees doing financial transactions.

@odg, the misinformation is calling terminations "layoffs". Layoffs is what companies do when they have to temporarily cut back on employees. BK is PERMANENTLY eliminating jobs. Mostly in the US so they can pretend to save money by hiring less qualified employees in countries with little regulation.

So much wrong information in one short thread.

There is no required 2 week vacation.
Performance displacements are with cause and no Sub.
Layoffs only receive SUB.
Offshore workers are generally new hires.

@uxj, you get sub pay if you're fired as long as it wasn't because of your performance.
According to Webster, a layoff is a period of inactivity or idleness or to cease to employ (a worker) often temporarily. These separations are never intended to be temporary so people are fired, not laid off.

BNY has no chill these days. they wanted to let go a woman who was on non paid leave for almost a year cause her husband was very ill. we fought to keep her on, she ended up resigning herself but you get the point

If you are fired, you don’t get SUB. I do not understand why there are people out here saying no layoffs when there very clearly are. Just because it’s not 10% doesn’t mean it’s no happening.
