Whatever the reason for RTO, it isn't to promote productivity. The office is already full of unproductive employees, many are right here commenting as if they have a crustal ball and can see what everyone else is doing. I do my job, so I don't have time to worry about what anyone else is doing, but I imagine most of the people promoting RTO are doing so because being the only person in the office AND being unproductive is too obvious.

Bill Ford committed to having 5,000 “highly paid” employees working in their offices at the Train Station......

So all the LL6s and LL5s? That should be fine.

Give us back our own space/desks and we'll talk about it. Hoteling was an assinine idea to begin with and RTO is proving it.

@1vxt+1tD1z0Gl vehicle breakins already? wow, you would think they would have a few security guards, knowing the neighborhood. though your window can be popped pretty fast these days with those window pop gloves. lil' pointy thing that makes a scratch, then: big old pile of diamonds.

Your approaching it from a logical perspective. Rookie mistake.

The only real reason why they want information workers in the office is money.

The city will have more income from taxes, expenses from people eating out or buying whatever.

which attracts Businesses which can then be taxed by the city.

The economy needs to siphon money off of you to keep going.

If office workers were to all be remote
The city would be a barren wasteland.

Anything related to Businesses is always about money.

Whether it makes logical sense or not it doesn't matter. Because money

Bill Ford committed to having 5,000 “highly paid” employees working in their offices at the Train Station and paying Detroit income taxes. The people working at the Book Depository are already complaining about the taxes and the vehicle break ins, just wait until there are 5,000 more theft targets sitting around, while people pay taxes for zero representation.

”…being on site is more efficient and effective.”

It depends on what your job is.

For most information workers, like high-level software developers and most engineers, unless they need access to real hardware or specialized equipment, being in an office has no benefit. They just sit at their desks all day working on a laptop computer. The company wastes a lot of money on a desk, a building, maintenance, security, janitorial staff and supplies, electrify, gas, water, etc., etc.

And, the daily commute is expensive. Those who must do it will demand to be compensated for it. Maybe not by going on strike, but definitely by getting another job that does.

If Ford wants cheap employees, they have to make it cheap for employees to work there.

WFH was never intended to be a permanent pay raise. Just because you were able to save all that money on gas, home improvements, second or third car payment, child care and insurance, doesn't justify all the whining. The simple fact is, being on site is more efficient and effective. So jump on your bike and get back to work...

Companies need to shed unproductive WFH employees. If it can be done form home, or is only taking you two hours than it needs to be outsourced or put as part time.

RTO is a movement/fad being pushed by commercial real estate investors.

They want business owners to deny the evidence of their eyes and ears and rent office space to be part of the “in” crowd.

What about the dangers of covid19?

This is definitely a step backwards in employees health.
