Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I resigned a year ago.

It's been a year since I resigned. I can't believe it. A year ago I was miserable. Today I couldn't be happier. Remote work is an absolute game changer. Having a manager I actually respect and can learn a lot from is another absolute game changer. And how refreshing is to experience genuine diversity: from 70s to 20s, from Japan to San Francisco, from community college to Harvard, from bachelors to PhDs, from Liberal Arts to Neuroscience. Not to mention the salary and the bonuses, the top health insurance and unlimited vacations.

Fellow EM colleagues, I came here to encourage you to leave. Life is so much better after Exxon. Take back control of your life and career. Not all corporate America is as rotten and toxic as EM, there are great companies with great cultures and great managers out there.

I enjoyed my time working at EM. However, I will concur that we hired below average and mediocre candidates in our team on the basis of our sup liking the candidate or had some foul arrangement. I was able to overlook the toxicity and neglect of the team for most of my time there while turnover remained high.

People applying today to jobs in EM are either 1) desperate, 2) mediocre, 3) blind/naive, 4) dont-give-a-fk, 5) starting-families-and shopping-for-health-insurance-and-paternity leave.

The real talent (those that left FAANG in the last 2 months) are applying to jobs in my company, not in EM.

Furthermore l, if a toxic a$$ho1e like you is screening those resumes that come your way, it is certain that the toxic culture will persist, as you are blind to your own biases and will certainly screen out any candidate who is not a poisonous snake like you.

Thus, the fact that recruiting is in the hands of a$$ho1es like you is enough reason to leave EM or for not joining.

@fmg Apparently sarcasm doesn’t relay well on a forum like this.

There’s nothing to envy. Take it from someone who is receiving your resumes.

OP here.

@ukp+1mDedVYV

Are you envious?

I understand. It is easier to rationalize and dismiss my post as an impossibility than as a wake up call to you mediocrity.

@dpi+1mDedVYV

As far as having trouble letting go, nope. As I said, I came here to inspire to my former colleagues, particularly the younger ones, of whom I still care.

Evidently you hate EM so much that is unimaginable for you to continuing caring about former colleagues after a year. Obviously I don't care about obnoxious a$$ho1es like you two, so my message was not for you.

But I'm sure many reading in silence might feel inspired so please don't let these two mislead you to believe that there's nothing better than EM out-there for you.

@ziq He’s (obviously) at a tech company. Despite having minimal computer skills and being almost 60 years old, he was hired by a FAANG for a 800% raise, permanent WFH, free healthcare, endless PTO, and a gorgeous new wife.

At least that’s what the hosers who post here want everyone to think. The reality is a little different.

@OP Evidently you have trouble with letting go.

Credit where credit is due: at least you had the good sense to move on. Perhaps it will catch on.
