I did. Started as a phone rep and worked my way up to a 6 figure salary in a little under 10 years with an (admittedly worthless) officer title. Yes, I had a college degree when I started. This gave me the opportunity to really learn the business and processes (many of which along the way I got to build). Now, I'm called a worthless boomer by younger workers who would never 'lower' themselves to start a career in a truly entry level role (hourly wage, weekend shifts, etc.).
If more of the current staff had done the same path, we wouldn't be so inefficient and have senior leaders who know the processes instead of throwing out rehashed (mostly failed) practices that don't have a chance of working.
Now 20+ years in, I at least see the light at the end of the tunnel and will be getting out of those soon to be irrelevant bank.
