Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

So much nonsense

I can’t stand corporate speak. Hey, we’re engineers. Most of us don’t give a cr-p about some flowery phrases or ridiculous motivational speeches, but exact measurements. You know, engineering? Middle mgmt is too fat. I wouldn’t mind it if it actually contributed. Many of them don’t. They’re rather an obstacle to doing a job right. I love my job and I would pay to have mid mgmt removed. Honestly. I can’t shake off the feeling that if we were allowed to actually do our jobs without bullsh-t talk, too long meetings and unneeded interference by clueless, we would be doing much better.

@1edj I’m sorry, but you guys keep bringing this upon yourselves.

You don’t engineer anything. You’ve never engineered anything. You know it. Your boss knows it. Your vendors definitely know it. So why keep pontificating about it? Get down off the soapbox once and for all.

@OP If I sat you down in front a routine engineering analysis problem, you wouldn’t be able to do it, and you wouldn’t be able to check the work of any junior engineers who did it.

You are a well-compensated technical writer who holds engineering credentials. Be happy and make the most of it.

Don't forget to leverage some consultants for that zoom collab!

Let’s circle back on this and test if we can unlock additional value by identifying synergies and structural improvements.

I’ll set up a zoom for us to discuss further.
