Worth reading - Does America need more foreign tech workers? No

Does America benefit from the immigration of truly exceptional talents, the vaunted “best and brightest”? Yes, absolutely. But, really, how many Einsteins are there?

I am sorry to say but I have lost respect for Vivek after his diatribe. A nice and very smart guy. But not calling out the communists for the long-standing sabotage of educational system in the US, but rather blaming the culture and questioning the brain power of American-born population, is disingenuous. At the very least.

Why are H1B's more often than not used for Indians? Never anyone from Canada, Mexico, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Poland, UK or even Panama? Is only 1 continent in the world producing "exceptional" talent?

Now it makes sense why Chandler is filled with workers from India. I thought that companies were very limited in the number of H-1B visas they could have, but it seems WF is filled with H-1B employees (which might be a combo of OPT as well). I have to plead ignorance, because I don’t understand how an H-1B or OPT employee can afford to live on a salary so much smaller than an American salary. Quite infuriating to see American peers being laid off while at the same time so many India employees are being hired in America.

I think you @e1 fail to realize what a drop in the ocean the effects of DEI is when compared to offshoring. Actually DEI is better because it at least hires an American citizen in the same country. If the offshoring continues as it is you'll be lucky to get any job at all in this country.

This post isn't about DEI and neither was that supreme court ruling. Maybe stop to consider how much else you don't have a firm grasp on.

@e1+1jjwcah88 - DEI practices were determined to be in violation of Federal Law, rightfully so, by SCOTUS...

The June 2023 Supreme Court decision banning colleges from considering race in admissions is having repercussions beyond who gets into college. The ruling has spurred a wave of state laws that curb or end campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts—and race-based scholarships are coming under fire, too

No. If we have a good supply of the “best and brightest” now, but they are held back due to diversity reasons and lack of opportunity. Imagine if we forced universities receiving taxpayer funding to accept all qualified US citizens in their programs before opening it up to foreigners. It is a bit disingenuous to say we don’t have the best and brightest when they are turned down at our universities because diversity is more important. I’ve seen this at medical schools too.

But Charlie only cares about cost cutting, not quality. Indians are cheaper.
