Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Its Official Oriskany is going Permanently Remote

For everyone stating that the rumors were all speculation and paranoia, you were wrong. The site is closing and the Site Manager announced it internally to all Oriskany Employees today with MW reading off a script.

It’s a clever way to not make the news but get rid of the building. Then slowly lay off & not replace those who leave CNY positions, so do not be jealous!!!!!

You are missing the point: asking Oriskany employees to WFH is just for long enough to gradually lay them off. The poster who posted 2 days ago and gave us heads up about yesterday’s Oriskany closure and MW visit ALSO mentioned the plan to layoff 80% of employees in this location and other smaller locations. So by asking Oriskany employees to WFH they avoided the publicity of mass layoffs and NY State Department of Labor disclosure and notification. It also ensures smoother operations until teams hire and adjust in other locations and in India. Laying off 80% of Central New York employees, many of whom were already impacted by the closure of East Syracuse office before they involuntarily relocated their positions to Oriskany 50 miles away, over 24 months is much “cleaner” and cruel for MW and BNYM. So, don’t envy Oriskany and CNY employees for being told to WFH. It’s just the beginning of a cruel process. No real chance for promotions, no more positions are posted and filled in CNY. When a BAH or WFH employee applies for another internal position (which is posted in another city) they are told position requires 3 days in office. So pray for CNY employees and don’t think that they are receiving a privileged special treatment. They are awaiting a cruel fate SADLY

It’s anonymous (it’s also stupid).

And to the poster spinning a fairy tale about Gerald calling out an employee for their engagement surgery responses, those were also anonymous.

But people, it’s often crystal clear who is writing what in these things.

@eap, except WARN notifications are required for site closings that affect more than 25 employees.

Funny they are all based at home and I’m being forced to get my BAH back to an office

Some of you need to find something better to do. This doesn’t impact you so get a life

And they would do layoffs gradually so no need for state filings or public announcements: let’s say 30 employees laid off every layoff round and in a couple of years only a handful of former East Syracuse and Oriskany employees are still employed! Currently less than 500 employees are still in CNY compared to over 2000 in 2020

Nope, it’s a big loss. Most will be on future layoffs lists. No jobs posted in CNY and harder promotions. If someone resigns in CNY, a replacement will be hired in other locations. Next year by this time CNY employees will be at least 50% less. Pray for CNY employees!

Going permanently remote for exactly as long as it takes to lay those employees off

The end goal is to close all locations excluding one in Florida and one in PA. This goal started two years ago.

I think Michael and Dwight need to go to the CEO's house and try to convince him to close the Scranton Branch instead.
