Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nepotism

  • the ugly word no one likes to say out loud at Nike, lol. Worked at a few corporate HQ’s and have yet to encounter the amount of couples and various familial ties I’ve seen here. And that’s just the FTE’s. Even more out of control for ETWs where you can hide the fact that the temp is your kid.

A lot of the Kohls folks are in the Bay Area, specifically in GT. Does anyone know if they were affected? Another day to go, but I have only heard of a few Kohls departures. Like @rek+1rdCX3Ux said, it doesn't make sense to get rid of RAT but leave his leadership team in place.

And I agree with @eiu+1rdCX3Ux that the Kohls nepotism needs to be addressed because they are in leadership roles. We need to take them out at all levels, including Principals, Directors, not just SD, VP.

Just make it easy and close BATC down.

@ eiu+1rdCX3Ux which consulting firm? I’m interviewing with a few and this might be an important factor for my next moves

I left Nike for a consulting firm that has a local office and works with Nike, and the nepotism was WAY WAY WAY WAY worse, which I didn’t think was possible. It was actually kind of refreshing coming back. The nepotism of hiring cronies from Kohl’s, Burberry, etc is definitely worse than the hiring of a kid here or there because it happens at such a massive scale and in leadership roles… that is definitely more of a driver of why we are here than familial or romantic relationships, but nepotism just the same.

Its endless here. I've watched two SrD's collude to hire one of their unaffiliated sons, taking a spot away during an ETW conversation period from someone who had worked hard and for several years in their org to EARN that FTE role.

To this day one of the most distasteful things I've witnessed in any workplace, but just another Monday Nike.

These kind of people are the ones witlessly destroying the business.

It’s the most relationship driven , favoritism oriented reward system I’ve ever seen, where social clout gets you father than actual knowledge or measurable results

And no, it’s not about rewarding soft skills, it’s about building empires.

Someone else said it best, Nike is a marketing company: all strategy and zero substance.

What about leveraging a company you were the CEO of to do your layoffs @ Nike while you are the CEO?

I wonder how many millions $ that contract was for Bain.

Or, how about hiring a guy and his d-mb fu-k friends from Kohl's and ruining business relations so bad, no one wants to work with your group anymore? And on top of that, said d-mb fu-k got a golden parachute and millions in severance to leave Nike to then leave VP and SD in place that were just as awful as he was?

This is the 3rd round of layoffs from Nike under the leadership of JD and everytime is sh-t this guy has done and allowed to happen under his watch. JD needs to go.
