Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Does Nike ever rehire people after being laid off?

I have this sinking feeling I will be laid off this week and I’m just wondering will I be eligible for rehire if Nike opens jobs that I qualify for? Is this frowned upon? Will people look at me like I wasn’t good enough so even if it’s technically allowed it’s not likely?

I’ve only been at Nike a couple years so haven’t been though this before so just wondering what’s possible.

It’s complicated and not a consistent process. Even people that get severance and signed not to be hired back…some do go back immediately. This happened when Cole Haan was sold. It’s another tool Nike uses to do exactly what they want.

@1qby+1r9TVfiw That’s actually not true. I accepted a severance and there is no wait period.

You can only come back at anytime from being laid off - if you didn’t get a severance.
If you accepted a severance, it is a 12 month wait

Yes. My friend was hired back.
When you get your severance, you have to sign a contract that you can’t work for Nike for 1 Year.
That includes being an ETW.
You just have to mentally get over it.

There is no waiting period for an FTE to come back as an FTE. There is a 180 day waiting period for an FTE to come back as an ETW. If an ETW gets let go, they can come back immediately as long as they haven’t hit the time limit.

The only people who probably would not get rehired are one who get fired. Laid off and fired are two different things.

The questions is, why would you want to get rehired? Do you go begging to an ex after they dump you? The key to success in life is moving forward, not going backwards. Have some confidence in yourself and move on.

I️ got rehired after being laid off if 2019. Didn’t get hired back for a year due to the covid hiring freeze but it’s absolutely possible to get rehired if you want to

Yes, I know a few people who have been hired back. I hope they aren't laid off again. That would be brutal. If it does happen, pretty sure they will move on for good.

yes it happens. usually those who decide to return have the mentality of an abused spouse who have no other options

I got let go with CDO and came back after a year. Got rehired in a different function doing my same job with a 30% increase. Between severance, PTO payout, unemployment and contracting, I made more that year than I did at Nike. The best part was coming back a year later and making more money and finding out my sh!tty SD was laid off.

I’ve known people who were let go from CDA, rehired, and let go on the recent layoffs. It’s a brutal cycle

Same. I'm almost certain I'll go. I would ask questions about rehire and how it's coded on paperwork in the meeting with HR. It'd be good to know and it's good to keep the options open

Someone I know was laid off during CDA and rehired 6 months later in a completely different function.

Rare to come back but possible

@sfs+1r9TVfiw Considering most companies do this these days, it’s more about finding a job I want, that caters to my talents and pays well. If it’s at Nike, it’s fine. If not, also fine. Seeing as Nike usually hires a ton after layoffs and is one of the larger employers in the area, I was just curious if I was eligible and if there was some stigma against rehiring people or not

Yes but why would you want to? How could you ever trust the company again?

I was laid off end of last year and I don’t have a wait period. I do have a few other leads though so keeping my options open!

People do come back but not right away. It’s like a year or two later. I’ve seen it.

Yes, I think there might be a 12 month waiting period though, can't remember

Usually they require you to be gone for a year before being eligible for rehire as an FTE or ETW

Ha! Only sheep would crawl back to get sla-ghtered for a second time. If you are dependent on Nike you need to straighten out your life priorities, my fiend.

I’ve heard of people getting rehired but I hope you wouldn’t hold out hope and wait around for that slim possibility. Best of luck though, this su-ks… Fellow newbie myself..
